Easy beginner projects from branches. This new woodturning video is how to turn a vase on a wood lathe. Wood vase turning is one of my favorite projects to do on a wood lathe. These are also considered bud vases or twig pots. This is a DIY lathe project that is pretty easy for wood turning beginners to show you how to turn a vase.
This is great for wood turning basics for beginners to show basic woodturning techniques. This is pretty basic wood vase design but also I think it has an elegant look to it.
When I finished the basic vase shape I sanded it from 80 grit to 500 grit. I used friction polish for the finish then beeswax over the top.
I hope you enjoy/ enjoyed this wood turning video. Please like share and subscribe.
Thanks for watching!

What I like about real time is I can see how you apply your tools. Your work is what it always is; outstanding, and fun to watch.

Thank you Ed! I appreciate your kind words! I do speed up the video some. I've geared my channel toward beginners and those still new to woodturning. My goal is to try and show what I'm doing with the tools to help people still learning and try to keep it entertaining as well. Thanks for watching! I appreciate it.

...that turned out great...and thanks again for showing something cool can be made from ordinary branches...👍 For a 6 minute video, real time works for me...and you do a great job with your videos. When others stretch out "turning to round" or sanding to 5-10 minutes, it gets a little hard to take... Keep up the good work, and I'll keep watchin'... Matt

Good afternoon I’m very, very much the beginner sooo, please bare with me. When parting off you went from your parting tool to your skew chisel saying about it saving reversing. I’ve turned so little, using carbide and a homemade parting off tool; I’m afraid that I didn’t understand what you were saying about reverse turning & a little worried that I maybe doing thing wrong - parting off until, it comes off 🤣 Hope that makes sense - Peter
@RcWoodturning
@RcWoodturning Год назад
That's a good question Peter. When you part something off with a parting tool it usually leaves a rough surface on the bottom. Reverse turning is flipping the project around and then you turn the bottom of the project to smooth it. When I part off with the skew it leaves a smooth surface so I don't have to do that. A word of advice, I don't recommend using the skew for this until you have lots of experience with the skew. It can be very dangerous if you don't know the technique. Thanks for watching!

@peterhicks Год назад
Perfect answer thank you, perfectly understand just not heard of it before referred to as ‘reverse turning’, thank you for clearing that up. I’ve really only done recess (mortise I think), just a couple of tenons. Looked recently at reverse turning & was just, just about to give it a go. Really enjoying watching your turning. Thank you for such a prompt reply. :-))

Real time is good, gives me idea how long it really takes for the project. What's very valuable to me is to know what sanding grits used & what finish is used. By the way, what is B.L.O.? Thanks for sharing, I'm a better turner because of your teaching by sharing. God bless you
@RcWoodturning
@RcWoodturning Год назад
Thank you Sam! I love hearing that my videos are helping. That's why I do it. B.L.O is boiled linseed oil. When it comes to sanding 95% of the time I start with 80 grit. Now this is the most important part of the sanding process. The 80 grit will remove the tool marks and smooth out the surface. You don't want to move on from that until you have removed all the blemishes from the surface. The rest of the grits smooth the surface more to get a nice finish on the project. I do 80, 120, 180, 220, 320, and 500. Thank you for watching! God bless!
