This video is a easy trick you can use to test wooden wick with one vessel. This method saves you money on materials ( wax & fragrance oil) This hack is for a quick one hour burn test. I always run a full wick burn test once I've chosen my wick.

Wow, why didn’t I think of this method of not fully preparing wicks in the pour. You’re a genius. What a time saver, and materials. Thank you!

You should do at least 2 full burns, to be able to decide if the wick isn't the right one for your jar. But the best is to burn full candle. Then, you will know how long it takes to get full melt pool, how is the hot throw, does tunnel, etc. 1h is nothing! With my wicks I don't get full melt pool until sometimes to 2-3 burn. Later on, when jar gets hotter, all wax gets melted and going down nicely.. and then I get many hours from one jar. Never decide after 1h burn.. Try again, with your wicks, but have at least 2 burns. And by looking, I would choose the second wick.

Thanks love ! I don't know about you but the wick process feel the most daunting . I appreciate your input though :)

@@CovetAlchemyCandles Yes, i think exactly the same. It's a very long process. Wasting so much wax, fragrance oil... £££ until we find "the one". But I never give up until at least I burn 2-3 times with same wick. They behave so differently every time, especially the wood wick, that's why you need more time with one. One day they burn nicely, another huge flame! But I can't make up my mind after 1h burn. Always give more time. Xxx

For conventional wick, this is especially true when using coconut wax blends. There doesn't need to be a full melt pool because the hang up wax will melt down when the wick reaches half way down the jar. For soy blends, there should be a full melt pool, unless the soy blend is super soft and behaves like coconut wax. As far as wooden wicks, I would assume the same principal applies.

This is so informative. I’ve been wasting so much wax AND wicks making full candles with fragrant oils! I recently switched to Makesy (The wooden wick co) virgin coconut soy and cannot figure out the appropriate wick! Omg I feel like an idiot. Thank you so much for this awesome video!!

No girl, I was doing the same thing! Of course, it doesn't work with some of the harder waxes, but with the wood wicks and softer wax blends, it has truly been a game changer. I'm so happy to hear that this helped.

@@CovetAlchemyCandles I used their wick guide and ended up w the wrong wick size (flames too high). They told me that the wick size I have with the diameter of the tins I used, it would work perfectly for soy wax (I have about 4lbs left). I tried it and it will not stay lit. So I had to place an order for a new wick size (according to customer service). We shall see how it turns out! Thank you for all your help!! ♥️

Your voice is very soothing. I am curious what diameter is that vessel because I though we would achieve the full melt pool after let's say 3 hrs if your vessel is 3" but in this you discarded 2 wicks because of the results after only one hour. Thank you for making a video of this!

My girl and I have 3.5 diameter tins. We used double booster wicks and it worked perfectly. I think since the last test were non-booster that’s why they didn’t reach the sides. We also pointed the booster part outwards. Also, we had tried one booster wick alone but that didn’t work. And.. you can either separate them or put the two wicks together. But I find it harder to have both them fit in one metal piece.

Can you re use/trim the burned part of the wick & use them to test a different vessel:fragrance instead of clipping another 1inch or two off?
@tammyhorrigan6459

If you have reached a full melt pool in one hour, then the wick is too big. I would have used the second one you tried. Slow burn is better than a quick burn. Three- four hours is sufficient time to reach full melt pool. Not one hour.

But who keeps a candle lit that long each time to avoid tunneling or faffing to fix wax memory. I maybe have my candles lit one or two hours

What are the reasons why a slow burn is better? Im having trouble deciding because in my vessel i used a .5 and it was good, good HT slower burn but residue was left on the sides despite it being lit for 7 hours(power burn). Wicked up to .625 and now it has a nice even melt pool no residue on the sides but does get to the rim within 1 hour 30 min what do tou think?
@tammyhorrigan6459
@tammyhorrigan6459 2 года назад
@@regilinecandles1548 I just think the faster it burns, the vessel can get extremely hot if the melt pool is very deep, also if it's burning too hot, you'll get sooting and mushroom tops and the flame can look too aggressive but having wax build up on the sides after 7 hours doesn't seem to be the right wicks? Have you tried putting two wicks in to help the distribution of the melt pool? I double wick my vessels which are 8cm in diameter and use Pro Wicks HTP62 and i get great melt pools in that 4 hour window. I may have slight build up of wax after the first 4 hour burn but it eventually catches up after each burn. Hope this helps :)

I love this but I use paraffin wax and I feel that the fragrance load may be altering the way my candle burn; plus I use tin cans from dream vessels. However I'm going to lower the fragrance load and try this method in the morning and come back with an update!

I’ve been testing out some wooden wicks, is it normal for it to have small sparks around the flame?
@CovetAlchemyCandles
@CovetAlchemyCandles 3 года назад
tiny sparks are normal. It's important to keep the wood wick dry, moisture can cause and increased sparking.

@CovetAlchemyCandles

the thickness and size of the wick may not be the right fit for the diameter of the jar you are working with. Also, sometimes too much fragrance oil can clog the wick as well.

@CovetAlchemyCandles
@CovetAlchemyCandles Год назад
hummm.... okay lets think .... 1. are you letting the wax cool and harden up all the way? 2. Are you giving the wick enough height? 1/8 to 1/4 inches ? 3. It may be too thin or not wide enough. Start there, and if that doesn't answer it, this trick might not be the way to test. Best of luck!!!
