I made wooden wick candles as Christmas gifts this year and had trouble with them tunneling and going out at first. This video is SO helpful, especially the myth busters! I tend to get overwhelmed, but your practical, easygoing style made me confident I can do this. Thanks for putting so much thought and effort into your videos!

Candle making has it’s own culture, it’s own world and it has a collection of really interesting characters. Making candles is intriguing. It has it’s roots in how our fore bearers rendered animal fats for lamps and finally bees wax was discovered eons ago. Candle making is noble, creative, artisan, necessary, fun and enjoyable and now intellectually speculative when the science of it is a discussion as to wicks and lighting efficiency. I found it interesting. Good video.

Just a tip I discovered using wood wicks. The wick clip made for the wooden wicks works great but is rather large. This causes the candle to not burn all the way down. This can be more of a problem in small candles. I have used wick tabs made for regular wicks by just putting a slot in the part you crimp down and inserting wood wick into this slot and lightly crimping. I found this works fairly well and burns all the way down.
@rlight7666
@rlight7666 5 лет назад
Great info Stephen! I noticed it doesn't burn down all the way and was thinking maybe I should use regular wicks for small candles. At first I didn't understand but now I get it. You're referring to the round metal tabs to put the wick in? I haven't used regular wicks yet.

As you say the testing stage is so important and has to be repeated if you make changes i.e.wax, fragrance etc. May sound daunting but the satisfaction you get from the feedback of your customers is well worth it!. Hopefully the U.K. market will add a lot more options to the wood wick range. Thanks again, and keep the video's coming.

I love your videos. They been helping me craft better candles. I always been in making my own spiritual candles where I add oils and herbs to a vigil candle. But as of last month I decided to start crafting and making my own candles from scratch. Your videos has been helping out when it come to the cotton wick because my wick kept getting choked out in the beginning now they're burning just right thanks to you. I been wondering about wooden wick and this video is just perfect. I love your editing of your videos and the way you structure the delivery of the information. Flows really nicely. Thank you for the time for making this. I follow you on all your social media. Except pinterest I don't think i found a pinterest account for you which if you don't got one I think you should really utilize that platform it's meant for purchasing or making a purchase decision.

Sometimes 1 wick isn't enough to form a full melt pool when the mouth of the container is too wide. Having multiple wicks helps you achieve a full melt pool.
