Just watched your video on Face Book and was blown away by your attention to fine detail. I would have quit a long time earlier with that deer video but you kept going and it kept looking better and better. I'm learning I need to slow down and spend more time on detail. Thanks for the great videos!

Hi it's me again! Thank you so much for answering all my questions. I just started pyrography about a month ago and I really enjoy it. I know you're very familiar with wood slices, and I wanted to see if you have any advice. I just purchased a package of coaster sized wood tree slices and just got them yesterday from Amazon and I noticed that several of them are cracking! Initially, I thought it was because that I added some water color to one of them, but today, I notice some more are cracking that I haven't even touched yet!! Do you have any advice on how to prevent them from cracking? Has this ever happened to you! Also, is it acceptable to still use the cracked ones?

Planning to do a video on this also. In short, you can certainly use them. You either get them wet and pinch them back together with glue on the seam, fill the crack with something after you burn (like epoxy) or use them as is and incorporate it into the design. To keep it from cracking, try to keep it away from high changes in humidity or temperature. If the ones you bought, still have moisture in them, there is still a good chance that they could crack.

Hi Jannie. Can you please tell me what brand finish you put on your coasters?

I use Minwax polyurethane. Here’s a link: amzn.to/3ObLWCF

I used your link to Amazon to purchase the Minwax polyurethane, but is says semi-gloss in the description and satin on the can. I would like satin. Also, it should be water based, correct? In case Amazon doesn't have the correct one available, do you have any other options or suggestions? And I noticed a lot of people say they use food safe finish, but you're not eating off of them so I don't see why you would have to do that.

Looks like they’re sold out. Varathane by Rustoleum is a good choice too. This should have a satin finish option: amzn.to/48YonFe Boutte finishes are good, but I am in the same camp as you. You don’t need to do that since you are not eating off of them. I would definitely use food safe for a charcuterie board, but I don’t think it’s necessary for coasters.

@@BurnSavvy Thank you so much for getting back to me. I will order the Varathane finish using your link.

Hello! I just bought a wood burning kit and I broke a tip in the burner 🙁 is there a way to save the tool?

That stinks. I’ve done that too and so far I don’t know how to rescue that one. I only know how to fix a stripped or cross threaded tool 😕
