Thanks for this informative video..I have never been to seminar but my local woodcraft has a carving club that meets every Tuesday..these guys are a great help to us newbies..favorite saying there is “well you can do that way but this is easier”then proceed to help...never met a carver who won’t pass on his/her knowledge
Great video Dennis, really enjoyed it. I have done a hobo out of Mitch's roughout. Seminars are truly great learning experiences and retirement has given me time to do that. Looking forward to your next video...
Thanks Denis very interesting ,I will have to do some search in Canada Northern Ontario if they have some siminars, they would be of great help as a new carver...
Thanks for this vid Dennis. Over here in England we don't have these seminars, not that I know of anyway. Figure/ caricature woodcarving/whittling is not as common here, nor is carving equipment! I had to get my good knives from American carvers shipped over (Helvie, Mike Shipley etc). Very interesting to get an insight into your seminar experiences. In the meantime i'll keep learning from books & youtube such as yours. ATB.
Dang! Missed a chance to meet you in person because I was there too. It was a great experience and I'll admit I was a bit intimidated at the start because I'm a relative beginner but all 5 instructors (and many of my fellow carvers) were incredibly helpful throughout the week. One-on-one time with these 5 gentlemen was absolutely incredible and I learned a lot. The camaraderie of the group enhanced the experience as well. Thanks, Garrett
Darn the bad luck,I was the guy with the So-Cal speed shop shirt..October is gonna be another good one,not sure if I can make it yet ~Got a Jim Feather class next weekend at our club (Conewago carvers)...
@@osprey02 Duh! We did talk for a bit on Friday because I commented on your shirt, having grown up in the area of the shop! Guess I was preoccupied and didn't realize it was you. I can't make October but I'm thinking of going back next March.
I didn't realize these types of shows existed. I am only used to carving from a piece of wood with no head start. With that said, do you have a video that would give me some tips on carving some type of eye? Most of my work is wood spirit themed, so I really don't need great detail in the eyes but I am lacking any talent when it comes to the eye. Thank You for your great videos!
Thanks for commenting Michael. My next video will deal with eyes, nose and face in general.Stay tuned I showed my next project in this video carving on the corner..You can advance my butternut carving video to 45 minutes were i'm carving the eyes.Follow this link..ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0DbeMOaKeDU.html
Dennis, thanks for the info on the rough-outs. I want to try my hand at doing some of these. I searched your post for the address, phone number or email for the carver that is doing this ,but I can’t find either. Would you please send me that information?
