Woodmaster Outdoor Burner/Boiler, Fans Quit, Doors Leaking!

Our Woodmaster LT90 outdoor wood burner completely stopped working a few days ago, just as the coldest days of the year are around the corner. Follow along as we troubleshoot the issue, replace the dixell computer control unit which may or may not fix our fans, and replace all of our leaking door seals. Can we fix it, and what were the issues? Up until now we were happy with our $1,000 boiler but as things fail and break we may change our minds. I try a new to me method to get the doors to seal tighter on this stove.

The dang dixell....lol....never knew that's what it was called. Nothing like dinking around with your dixell with a winter storm on the way. Ha. Good to see your back up and running now get ready to feed it cuz the cold is on the way!

Oh yes it is! Definitely glad we got it back up and running. Now to get a new green light and new front door and we’ll be in business. Hopefully my dixell keeps working how it should for years to come.

I was jumping the gun watching the video. I was going to mention a high limit switch or an aqua stat. They seem to be the two most common problems but like you said the other control module was probably not working both fans so I would probably look into getting a high limit switch even if it’s a spare cause something clearly caused it to trip or it’s starting to malfunction 👍. Nice work

It may have overfired because of the leaking door seals. There is a temperature control sensor and when the temps drop to 140 it should reset and work again. We;; that's what Im going with
@DaleFarrish-Dalbet
@DaleFarrish-Dalbet 8 месяцев назад
I have the dime temp sensor on mine and that happens once in awhile. You just reminded me that last time it happened a couple years ago that I just cut the wires on it. I should likely fix it.

Glad you got that figured out. I watched that HeatMore door gasket video. I’ve never seen a gasket go in like that. Still trying to make that seem right in my head. 😆 I’ve always just used the silicone as an adhesive for the gasket then shut the door and left it closed until it’s cured. More than one way to skin a cat I suppose!Take care! 👍🏻

great segment. i liked that you were trying to figure it out as you were going along. had never thought about putting silicone on the doors or on the rope. was it high temp silicone? i've always used gasket cement. i have to change the rope on my little Jotul stove, but thats a project for spring. have a link to that rope replacement video you talked about. glad you got the boiler working.
@hardworkingmanoutdoors
@hardworkingmanoutdoors 8 месяцев назад
Here is the video. It definitely helped! I will be replacing the whole door eventually though as the handle is worn out and is welded through the door. The stuff I used on the outside was actually labeled as graphite? 2,000 degree door gasket adhesive. greenvalleyheating.ca/videos/

heath, do you have the right size door rope. I first bought the door seal at Menards, wrong size then i went to the dealer got the right one, your dixell has a probe wire that go into the Wood box that sends the tempter to turn the fan on. the dealer said it could be either one so I bought both so I didn't have to waste 2 hours going back to get the other part. check your fuses to.

I've had to replace the thermal overload protector on my boiler a couple times in the last 10 years. Looks like the same as yours. Bad door seal allowing excess temperature burned it out, other time left door open.

@stevethiel5838
@stevethiel5838 8 месяцев назад
@hardworkingmanoutdoors , Heather, good to have an extra 'thermal overload protector' on hand also. Once they have tripped, only a matter of time they will fail. Also easy to make a jumper if goes out and don't have one on hand. Worst part of installation is tiny screws that use to hold to boiler. Drop one and difficult to find, especially if drops in insulation. Good luck, stay warm!

Hi Heath, Glad the video helped out on the door. I think you might be a little thin with the fire caulk on the door rope yet. My door is adjustable so I was able to tighten my latch a little. If you look at manufacturer websites you can see the adjustable door latches. Maybe you can have someone weld one up on your door for you. Mine doesn't have wire mesh but it did have a steel plate there. It was real thin and all rusted and warped so I cut it off with a grinder and installed 1/4" steel on it. My fan and solenoid is on the door so this extra plate helps keep it from over heating and burning out the fan. I keep a spare fan, solenoid and a pump as well as all the hose fittings on hand for mine. It seems like they are designed so that they wear out or break in the middle of a snow storm when all stores are closed. When I bought my used OWB I just replaced the wiring, aquastat, solenoid and pumps with new so that my wife wouldn't complained when it quit. I even bought a spare OWB for a good price a couple years ago just in case something happens to the jacket. It had a short in the wiring and burnt all the controls which I will replace anyway so a good deal. I would throw some wooden skids down for a walkway to the OWB. Let the tractor drive in the muck. Now get working on that kitchen remodel.
@hardworkingmanoutdoors
@hardworkingmanoutdoors 8 месяцев назад
Thanks Dale, yeah I left it a little thin to see if it would still close okay. This door is pretty rough but I have a new one on order, because it’s just the door without fan etc it was decently priced.

I talked to my coworker at the Grocery store today. I said, "How's your wood boiler working for you?" (polar vortex etc.) I put a quarter in him, in a way. He's really proud of it, in regard to the heat bill it saves him. Same as you his oil burning furnace doesn't kick on. He wants to get another 100 gallon tank for his oil burning furnace. -14F Real feel -38F. Sweet deal though, don't have to go to work tomorrow! HA! (no pay neither 🤣 ) Way to go Heath.

I live a little north of you. My Woodmaster is 24yrs old. 😊 i have it dialed in. Burn little wood. Never fill it, only put the right amount of wood for the temp of that day. Always have hot coals and little ash. It’s set at 155deg. House, hot water and garage. Example, tonight is only 32deg. I put 3 pieces of cherry on hot coals for the night. Easily a 12hr burn with a bed of hot coals in the morning.

I have a Central Boiler (classic non gasification) that I added the draft inducer to the door where the solenoid opens. It has an adjustable plate to vary how much air goes in. I have it set about 1/4 open. I helped someone with his furnace that is more like yours. He was burning so much wood. It sounded like an incinerator. I added a plate to his blower with about 1/3 opening in center and it sounded much better and he isn’t burning as much wood. Just something to think about if you go through a lot of wood - being able to adjust the amount of air seems important, my furnace doesn’t like max air because it sends more heat out the chimney and boils. Glad you are going again. Nice video.
