The blades of WoodsKnife knives are manufactured by Laurin Metalli, so it should be 80crv2 at around 59HRC
@knownaigm
@knownaigm Год назад
Lauri blades are absolutely killer for the $$$ in my opinion. I've made and used many of them and they're a treat to use.... especially if you give them a faint bit of convexing too!
@Cid_1
@Cid_1 Год назад
@@knownaigm Yeah Laurin Metalli got some of the best bang for the buck blades out there. And there is not without reason why so many makers and even large companies use the blades. He also heat treats them at different hardness if a maker orders it. I also really like the YP Taonta Leuku blades, they are my absolute favorite, since they are convex grind something we don't see that often (especially in that price range). They have a long history and is another great option (mostly using C75 steel).
@knownaigm
@knownaigm Год назад
@@Cid_1 Yeah I have a couple of the Lauri PT differentially heat treated blades and LOVE them! For me, the Lauri blades are just kind of the best of both worlds in that they're tough, take a crazzzzzzy fine edge yet are super easy to touch up and keep sharp even if the edge retention isn't like say M390 or something. I can carve and whittle and process and shape wood with mine for soooo long simply with a quick strop every now and then. I only have one YP blade myself and holy crap that thing blew me away instantly. That super high 0-ground convex is a wood working wizard! Plus it's surprisingly adept at food prep as well.

Hi, there Pete! Greetings from Finland. The maker of the WoodsKnife knifes is a guy called Harri Merimaa. He states, that the knifeblanks, he uses come from a company called Laurin Metalli. Laurin Metalli also provides the knifeblanks for Varusteleka’s knives. Keep up the good work. The two RU-vid channels I especially enjoy are Nic Shabazz’s and yours.U guys have the tongue in cheek , but still manage to inform people about knives and materials extremely professionally. Me likes!
@lalli8152
@lalli8152 Год назад
Almost every knife company if they are reasonably priced uses Lauri blades in finland. For example these Harri uses everyone can buy the blanks, and lot of manufacturers uses the same blanks. Thats why almost evey companys knives look exactly the same on the blade here. The negative thing i guess is you are essentially buying the same knife no matter who hilted it, and made the sheath unless its some more specially designed one like Rokka korpisoturi, Peltonen sissipuukko, varustelekas terävä knives or such. Generally also as they say the knife blade is hand finished to my understanding they just hone the edge, and thats about it.

I agree with the comments. I've got a Wood Jewel Karhu Leuku with the exact same blade, and it's 80CrV2. Great budget steel. It's very tough, takes a superb egde, even if it doesn't hold it for very long, field sharpening is very easy. You can't go wrong with a Laurin Metalli blade.

The Blade is 62HRC, and the Spine is much more softer, i think 52-54 HRC i wish, you coud make a rope Test with one of these...oh, i think the Rokka Korpurisori use the Special heattreated 80crV2

A beauty of a blade, very similar to the more "military" Terava 140 (another stunning knife) but, you can pry my Pathfinder from my cold, dead hand because that knife really suits me, light, strong and easy to sharpen (she ain't no chopper -, or looker though). Nice review as always sir.

Love a good leuku! I bought a 210mm blade from Lauri (same steel, 80crv2), put on my own handle, thinned the grind a good bit then added a secondary bevel and she's become a mean chopping machine! Tough and well done, I've accidentally batoned it through a log into the concrete on my drive way with only a little deformation at the edge that sharpened out in like 5 mins on a basic sharpening stone. IMO best bang-for-your-buck big choppers if you don't mind a small bit of DIY for a lifetime of great performance

I have been using these Sami knives for years and don’t use anything else now, couple of points about the style the handle you have is not as user friendly as available. I prefer the pommel ended handle this allows you to do all that chopping of branches with two finger’s holding the knife, you won’t need an axe camping if you have this and a saw. It sucks for food prep so pack a mora light my fire knife for food and sparking fire rod. When cutting the branches pro tip is to cut from underneath rather than the top.

If you care about pronounciation, here are a few tips for pronounciation. Leuku is a very quick word to pronounce, with no stretched wovels like the "lyykyy" in this video. Don't take this as a diss, nobody would expect you to speak enchantment table without practice, and it's always just plain funny to hear someone butcher other languages. IPA: ˈleu̯ku LE from "Leyland." U from "Butcher." K as a normal hard "kuh" sound Another similar U.
