I always enjoy your narrative videos. It is, I believe, a element of outstanding videos. Many RU-vidrs don't and they their channel struggles. Thank you for your hard work in producing these videos over the past years. I appreciate your channel very much.
Using a round carbide to get a really smooth finish, I turn it to a angle to get more of a slice than a scrape. More like using a bowl gouge. Just my approach, still prefer my bowl gouges! I use carbide mostly for hollowing with my Lyle Jameson hollowing system. Love boxes, like your work. Keep it up, always watch for your videos.
A nice little box and a top-class video. Thnx Mike! I'm learning a lot from you and you are also providing me with inspiration. Going to try a Man-Bowl shortly.
beautiful box.i have 3 walnut blanks waiting to be turned into something.after watching this im gonna try a box tomorrow. I watch all your videos.I learned a lot from them..
Nice demonstration, Mike!!! Thanks for sharing!!! This video demonstrates why you are one of my favorite wood turners. You provide lots of nice detail and explain things.
Very nice, I haven't tried adding texture to my work yet; however, I your inspiration encourages me to try it on my next project. Just waiting for the weather to warm a tad here in North TX before venturing into the unheated shop.
Thanks for leaving the audio up. I didn't realize how loud woodturning is. No one ever mentions it. I am thinking about purchasing a lathe but I have sensitive ears. Yes, I know, wear ear muffs but I don't ever see anyone wearing them. Comments?
The microphone is amplifying the cutting sounds. Some RU-vid turners attenuate these sounds (or null the turning sounds) during editing. In real life you will hardly notice the sounds (I have sensitive ears also).
I think this is the month for lidded. This month the club I am in the monthly challenge was lidden, and I used two pieces of scrap walnut that were 4x4x1 1/4". (i posted pictures on your Facebook) . Also were you using a pure square carbide or the radius square? The radius square does slightly better than pure square on tearout since there is a smaller surface contact.
Really elegant little box, Mike, thanks. Although we woodturners enjoy our hobby, some find different irritations, including hollowing and stopping to fashion jam chucks. Carbide tools for rough hollowing really accelerate the process, but I find square tips a bit scary there, and have changed to a radiused square tip. Then, I have a boxful of jam chucks, just needing adjustment for each job, but simply using the unfinished box base seems a really useful tip, thanks .The various sanding sealers are a bit of a mystery to me: so far I have used only a spirit based formulation, and only when considered necessary. Would that be a topic worthy of your attention? Bernard.
Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback, Bernard. See if this video covers the topic or I need to go beyond. It is several years old so could be a candidate for a do over. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qYTMqxV_1vg.html
Mike, love the box especially the special effects. One little, not really a complaint, just a suggestion, the camera location would have been better(for me mind you) looking at he front of t he box when you were doing the actual work. Just a thought.
This is great Mike. Want to make some boxes myself, I appreciate your detail and the suggestion of books for reference. Do you have a recommendation on masks and face shields?
Sorry about that. Without some ad revenue, I do not think I could justify the time I spend making the videos. I guess that is the price of free videos, isn't it?
@@MikePeaceWoodturning I understand some adds but in your 25 minute video there was five or more adds. Don’t take my comment wrong, I still plan to watch, because your content is that good. Thank you very much!
