In this video I turn a wooden disc shaped bud vase. I found out that the woodturning sequence is very important, so I planned out the steps before jumping into the project. I also sized the opening very carefully to make sure the test tubes that I purchased would fit into the holes. Both the plastic test tubes (16 x 100 mm) and the 16.5mm drill bit were purchased on Amazon.
Tools and I use in my videos and some product links:

thanks for this - very nice bud vase. I noticed you cut off the base in the bandsaw then machined one still with it in - you forgot!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thanks, yes, sometimes if I don't follow the proper sequence, I have to do some work arounds to get the final result 🙂

Sehr schöne Arbeit. Vielen Dank für das informative Video . Eine kritische Anmerkung kann ich mir dennoch nicht verkneifen: Den oligarchischen Handelsriesen mit dem "A" sollten wir alle meiden.

I love the vase project but I have to ask. Do you change lathes in the middle of the project? I saw a Robust lathe in most of the video but at the end it looked like you were using a Laguna. 😀

Thanks, good catch on the lathes. I am lucky enough to own both the Robust American Beauty and the Laguna 2436

Thanks Heather, it is a tricky project to do, but you will really be happy with the result when you do one. Thanks so much for commenting.

At the 4:40 mark, what kind of block did you put into the chuck?
@frankdidomizio
@frankdidomizio 2 года назад
Thanks for the comment. That block was just one of my typical jam chucks, just a piece of scrap hardwood with a tenon on one side that will go into the chuck. On the other side of that jam chuck I have glued a piece of anti fatigue mat, available at most home centers or hardware stores, amazon, Walmart, etc.. This jam chuck will then drive the piece with just friction from the headstock.

@@frankdidomizio thanks Frank! I have some of that mat! I'll soon be giving this a try!

Very nice video. I haven't turned one like this, will have to try it. I would like to know where you got your smock. I'm using a welding jacket, it was the only thing I could find at a reasonable price and the shavings fall right off. Everything else seems to be short sleeve.
@frankdidomizio
@frankdidomizio 3 года назад
Thanks, the smock I was wearing came from Lee Valley, but they do not offer this any more. A very similar smock is available and made by Robert Sorby. This was on amazon, but not there any longer? You might have to hunt around to find out where they sell it.

Great piece Frank! I'll definitely have to give it a try! What vacuum system are you using if you dont mind me asking?
@frankdidomizio
@frankdidomizio 3 года назад
Thanks, I am using the Oneway vacuum system (chucks, valving and vacuum pump). I found it is very reliable and good quality and gives a good vacuum.
