My second attempt to making churchwarden pipes, still learning.
But it's definitely one of the more hands on projects I do. Really enjoy making them.
I don't have a stem bender het, so I'm using the boil bending method for now.
As you can see it bends quite nicely ut to 15mm think. But the success rate is 100% always, like in the video one of the stem was badly cracked.

The way you drilled a hole in the wood first and then used the holes to center your wood piece is so simple and yet I couldn’t think of it. Awesome work.

I just did the same thing with cherry wood, now I’m trying to egg myself on to steam bend the stem, just trying to get the courage up to do it lol

Ok, from what I'm seeing it looks like you removed enough wood to equal at least three more pipestems all to make just one from the center of that piece of wood. You could have easily cut the piece you started with lengthwise into four separate pieces then turn each one into a stem. Go back and review your video footage, look closely at the piece you start with. Perhaps you'll see what I mean. Good luck.🖖😎👍
