Ya know, Mike... I always think "Aww poor Hooch" every time you give him a blast with the compressor. Poor wee dude always looks shocked! Kinda a Bob Ross feel to the video while you were doing the painting on with the dye. Half expected a "little tree" to appear. Interesting though! I'm kinda interested in how well the colour stays over time. A lot of wood dyes have a UV protection additive, so will the hair dye fade without it...

You are amazing Mike! Now you have combined your beautician hairstylist and your mad scientist skills to achieve another masterpiece. I think the colors look perfect. So, if your wife's hair has turned out half as nice, she must look gorgeous. It looked like you also used your new tools on this project. Hope they work out well for you.

I'm sorry about your illness. They actually give us a modified dose of self destructive Covid 19 and we just have to grow our own defenses against it. I'm old and afraid of what it may do to me. I don't think I will end well when it's finished. Get well soon, and hope it's a short duration for you.

Poplar is great for cabinetry, trim, etc. because it works so easily and takes paint well. I never realized how much it tears out when used like this.

I am profoundly colourblind but I can see how beautiful that piece is... I'm sure people with normal colour vision see a lot more subtle effects than me so it must be really good for them. So, I told my wife about you dying your wife's hair and doing graduations and all and suggested I dye my wife's hair. She looked at me and said... "Remember those dark grey loons you bought in Carnaby Street and were so proud of and how you discovered a year later that they were, in fact, cerise pink? You're not getting near my hair". On my screen the dye looks great. The bowl as a whole is fantastic. I was just talking with another turner about lacquer and how long to let it cure before buffing. He was suggesting 10 days to 2 weeks.

Hi Mike. Love the color on the bowl. Don't think I would love it on my wife's hair, though I did similarly with a piece of birds eye maple for a box lid. That experiment worked Extremely well. I've only used Poplar for inside support on cabinets I've made. That piece looks stunning. It's a bit hard for me to get big enough 'Wide' pieces that I could make a bowl. Pardon my humour, the Smurf made a brief appearance and I had to pause the video to try and make a comparison 🤪😁. I too used to be the one to colour my wife's hair. ( Chestnut), a couple of years ago, I convinced her that Gray is a nice colour and she should grow old gracefully. Fortunately she agreed and her hair looks great. 😎

Initially I was skeptical about the blue. But damn! Mike, really beautiful blue ombré at the end. To fine tune the penetration, and gradation, maybe stippling with a stiff brush instead of a sponge. 7 lacquer coats, yeah 30 days for successful polishing. Great work Mike! Joe CA

This is just gorgeous. The blues really work. Who said blondes are more fun? I like the grain on poplar. Your finishes really bring the best out of wood.

I think the blue came out beautifully. I am going to try this. I had been using food coloring to get unusual wood colors. I have had success though it requires more applications.
