In this video I take a piece of softwood and turn two eggs from it, one large, one small. I mainly use a Robert Sorby 19mm skew but for the second egg a 6mm skew is also used.

Thank Graham! I'd really encourage you to dust it off and give it a go. Grab some cheap softwood and practise, practise, practise!! Cheers!

Hi Lewis, apparently so but I've not noticed it myself so I must be watching the wrong channels! Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave, Amazing video and you made two of the most perfect eggs I have seen turned. Great work Dave. Cheers, Huw
@MoleValleyMaker

Cheers Huw. I think the first one was as close to perfect as I got with the rest of the ones I turned. I suspect that's because of the prominent rings add a lot of visual interest.

Great eggs Dave, good work with the skew too. I like the sizes of them and how well you shaped them, thanks for sharing. Keep on turning. Cheers, Bluey 👍

Holy cow Dave, your mastery of the skew is awe inspiring. As you know, me and the Devil's Can Opener still aren't friends. Wow, just amazing!

Thanks Tim! I've spent a lot of time practising with the skew. I cut out the roughing out using the skew to keep the video length down but that allowed me to warm up! Watch the old video of Allan Batty with the skew (Craft Supplies channel) and then the Alan Lacer one then grab some cheap soft wood and just play. A bigger skew is easier than a small one, the Alan Lacer grind is also more friendly (if possibly a little less versatile - debatable)
@BadAppleWoodwerx

I think I've watched the Allen Batty one a couple times. I did regrind one of my skews (I have two the same size) to the Lacer grind and find it a bit more forgiving, but it also seems to be less versatile to me. I need to practice a LOT more, hahaha.

Thanks Tim. It's the right tool for the job and I'm on a bit of a mission to use it as much as possible! The first Egg was probably the best of the half dozen I turned to be honest! Cheers, Dave

Great work Dave. Seems the skew is taking the spotlight this week. This is about the 4th video I have seen this morning with the skew taking centre stage. Will have to look at getting some more skew practice in myself soon.

@@MoleValleyMaker well, it's the first time this week I'm getting time to catch up on things, so there was Lewis (Klondike Craftsman) with a honey dipper and Huw (Wooden-it-be-nice) with a short video for a honey dipper and Gord Rock with a little lidded pot.

@@JiggsysShed Doh......and I've watched all three! Maybe it's because I use it so often it's not so unusual to me?? I dunno....

@@MoleValleyMaker you're probably right there. I'm still very much learning, so tend to pay attention when the skew comes out.
