Hello my friend. The original mahogany tree is difficult to find. It's a rare tree. And making guitar from mahogany wood is an artistic product. It is a precious and beautiful tree species in my country. Lumber is very precious. Thank you for sharing. Great greetings....

During the 80's and 90's I made a lot of instruments including solid body stuff, but nothing on this channel as I am in the process of setting up for luthiery. I might make a short video on a where I'm up to with the process 😊 It could be interesting. I had to fell a good few trees 5 years ago due to some being a problem and a couple being dead. I have slowly been processing and storing them future projects, especially instrument building wood 😊 ॐ
The Wood Yogi that sounds like it would be an interesting video. Although many builders have channels, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen one video of a shop being set up for luthiery. 👍
That is some good looking wood. Thanks for the detailed info different mahogany woods. As you were rotating the piece of mahogany in your hands, you could hear the tone in that piece. Mahogany has a really nice texture. Enjoyed a full-watch, Steve. Have a fine weekend.
Thanks for the feedback on the other thread - I subbed to your channel and I might make a trip over to Fontana to check out the store... I've still got some genuine Cuban Mahogany left from a dining set project I made 25 years ago...The pieces I have are small but someday I'll make something with them! I was also wondering if you ever heard the story of "The Tree" a quilted mahogany that was very rare? I guess a lot of guitar makers prized that wood (from what I've heard).
You're welcome to come out. Just give me a heads up with a little notice. I'm usually only there a couple of days a week. I have heard of the tree. There is someone in Central Cal with some boards from it but last I heard they were asking ridiculous $ for it. About 1 1/2 years ago, we had some 8/4 Genuine Mahogany with really strong figure that rivaled the pics I'd seen of wood from the tree (at least in the same ballpark). @@CommercialForest I was fortunate enough to have a large board from "the tree" which I used with the cuban mahogany for the dining set...I have a few small pieces left from it, I'll bring one to show you when I go out there.

There’s a lot of controversy, for sure. Some renown luthiers agree with you, others claim to hear the differences. Personally, my ear is not good enough to do any tap test analysis.
