Thanks Larry! Truth be told, I'm in the shop every weekend, and I am usually filming. I even have two more projects filmed. I've just been lazy about editing them and putting the videos out! Thanks for watching and for the kind words. It is a very stable set up. With the lathe mounted to the top of the legs, the rail isn't as crucial as it would be if it was the only connecting point between the legs. I have no issues with lateral movement at all. I wanted to limit the horizontal surfaces below the lathe to avoid catching shavings. By not having a stretcher, that is one less thing to impede the shavings from making it all the way to the floor. I'm not against the idea if it ever is needed, but as of now, mine works perfectly without it. Thanks again for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it.

I have a couple videos filmed ahead of it and plan on releasing those first. This is just a part time hobby for me, and with work and other commitments, it takes me a while to edit, voiceover, and publish a video. If you haven't seen them yet, I do have a couple of turning videos on the channel. Last September I released a Checkered Bowl video, and last December a Walnut Shift Knob. Those were turned on this lathe, just not while it was mounted on these lathe legs. Thanks again.

Thanks Mark for the view and the kind words! I can't think of anything about it I would change. I get a lot of people questioning if it is sturdy enough, or if it wants to rack. It is rock solid. I bet you could do it. As long as the first "template" layer is cut like you want it, and you make your reference screw holes for alignment, the router does most of the rest of the work. Even if they aren't perfect, as long as they are even on the bottom and sit level, it will be very nice and usable. Thanks for the view and the comment!

Wow thanks Darren! Mine measures 32” tall by 24” wide at the bottom. Of course the height of yours will depend on your height and the height of your lathe. I’m 6’1” and I made mine at a comfortable working height for me. There are resources online that tell you how to determine the proper height, and I’d use those as a starting point, but ultimately it’s more about what is comfortable and safe to your situation. Mike, thanks for commenting. That is a valid question, but it has not been an issue for me. There is very little vibration in my lathe unless it is at the very beginning of a turning project and the piece is not yet symmetrical. Otherwise, it runs smooth as a top. Likewise, I don't think lag screws will behave the same way a bolt might in a similar vibrating environment. The wood actually wedges on the lag as you drive it in (assuming your pilot hole is not too large), and keeps it snug. You could drill through and use a bolt or nut, or use a lock washer under the lag, but it has been my experience that this is not necessary. Thanks Mike for watching and asking this question. Mike, sorry it took so long to get back to you. Each "A" measures 24" wide by 32" tall by 5" thick. It makes for a very sturdy stand. Thanks for the view and the question!

Thanks for providing the dimensions for the "A" - but do you mind if I ask about how tall you are? I'm 6'2" and wondering if I should make it a different height. Thanks again, perfect looking stand!

John, I’m 6’1” so very close to your height. I did a search online to see how to gauge the proper height, but I can’t remember what the formula is. Mine should be about what you need though. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for watching and commenting Howard! You could use MDF on a few layers if you want. It is less expensive, and has the added benefit of being denser and heavier, giving good weight to the base. However MDF does not hold screws well. You would want to make sure your screws spanned the MDF layer and anchored solidly in the plywood layers. Good luck with your project and thanks again!
