This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ru-vid.comUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
I like that you did not use fiberglass or epoxy. However it looks like you used Titebond water resistant glue. Tite Bond water proof would be a better choice, however none of the Tiebond glues are recommend for use below the water line. It would be wiser to wear a cartridge mask when applying the water proof coating to the wood. It appears that the ribs are overbuilt. You need a wider beam for stability.
For once in your life.. how if it's a do it yourself video please put only you have the tools like you have .. or diy without those tools .. of course most could make and do this themselves but those tools would make job easier
As a retired professional cabinet maker it makes me ill just watching all the videos on RU-vid seeing home craftsmen and occasionally professionals using band saws with the guard post raised up just waiting for a hand to slip off the work and into the blade and subsequent trip to the emergency room . When you buy a power tool read the safety guidelines and follow the advice . Stupid is as stupid does !
With those tools I would have expected a more... professional outcome..so to speak...but obviously this was just a fun project... but, one never knows..
That's like saying I could be a great surgeon because I bought all the nicest medical equipment tools are just tools. With skills, experience, and knowledge, those tools can definitely make a difference in the finished product or in the time required to complete. I've never built a boat, I guarantee you could drop me in a master boat builder's shop, and you'd be lucky to get a stick raft.
A fun video... I'm surprised that you still ahve all of your fingers watching how you work around the power saws. And using wood that has knots in criticals areas is from a pro's standpoint a no-no. Ugh!
For safety, the upper arm of the bandsaw should be no more then 1/2 “ above the wood being cut. The saw blade exposed as he has it. Is waiting for a hand injury and blade breaking.
All the rules for building a boat have been violated. The boatmen cried as they watched this. Even for a carpenter, it's tough work! Video for viewing.
You need to add weights to the bottom for lower center of gravity. If the total density is over 1g with you on the boat then the boat needs to be slightly larger.
I liked it and I surely would have used that when I was a kid, would have asked my dad to lay some fiberglass over it, painted it and one of my older brothers would have thrown a motor on it just for laughs.. Great project and now it can be used for yard art..
There is so much wrong here that I don't know where to start. 1. Design. Do you know how to determine the size of a boat? Things like water displacement? The water as almost coming in over the edge when he used it. 2. Shop skills. Using tools the way he did will eventually lead to him losing a finger. 3. Techniques. He used a couple of half lap joints that are then dowled. But those were poorly done. Then he used but joints on the bottom and sides. The question is not if that thing will leak, but when will it leak. Someone else mentioned putting fiberglass over it. That would have helped fix this issue.
As someone who lives around boats.. it was hard to watch. But i guess it got finished and floated which is more than so many projects do. Start small and achievable. Be good to see a similar one done using traditional methods of construction, a tad bigger.
Your braver than me, there is no way i would have taken that boat out onto the lake, you didn't even put any glue between the side strips, i could see when you were on the water it was already starting to leak, sorry not a good idea for a boat build, but it dosen't matter you got what you were aiming for , a lot of views.
🇨🇦 Ok C'est pas le TITANIQUE Mais faire un travail manuel et partir de rien C'est toujours gratifiant Bon boulot 👍 Ok It's not the TITANIQUE But do a manuel job And start with nothing Is always gratifying Good job 👍
I think you could use the jigg more when drilling in the work bench? Drill the first row, use the al to locate the second row, then go back and do the same for the third. Now you can use the 2 holes on the top and the bottom, this way you eliminate the risk of measuring wrong between the rowes.
