The “sander headlight” is a terrific idea. When pulling smaller pneumatic nails they break if you try to pull them out with a channel lock. I’ve had good success holding the nail with a pliers and using a hammer or small bar to lift the pliers straight up. You’re not trying to bend the nail so it doesn’t break and usually comes out quite easily.

Good tips. For pulling smaller nails, or ones that are nearly flush, i like to use end cutting pliers. The sharp jaws grip better, and they have the same rounded shape to lever the nail out. Plus they're wider than channel lock pliers, so they're less likely to dent the wood. Sliding a putty knife under the jaws prevents dents, too.

I use System 3 T-88 epoxy for voids. It's structural epoxy that I had left over (had some dry rot outside), but It's viscous and works well for filling things like knot holes in black walnut. It's in 2 containers, resin and hardener, so you only mixup what you need.

Love the sander headlight. We used to use a raking flashlight to detail drywall for repaint. My drywall guy says it’s not flat but the illusion of flat. Like the leaving a tail on peel off backings. With regular tapes I fold the end over to leave a grip tab.

The channel lock trick I remember doing when i was 6 years old. My dad and uncle tasked me with pulling nails out of board's to give me something to do for a while and to keep me out of their hair. I had nails with heads too small for the hammer so I started digging in the tool box saw the channel locks and figured I could pull them out. Didn't work, but then i pushed down . Total accidental discovery of a 6 year old turned into one of the best tricks I still use.
