I decided to try my hand at turning a segmented bowl. I used walnut and poplar as the two opposing woods. This is for decoration or organization only. This type of finish is not food safe. Filmed on the iPhone 10 using the iPhone camera stand. Logo design by Brandon Kettle. Video music is "Buckeye Bonzai", "Desert Brawl", and "Tuff Data", all three by Vans in Japan. PSA music was "Sunrise in Paris" by Dan Henig.

Hi Andy! Nice video! ... I learned a few things and found it quite entertaining, too! I've heard of your work through the Sagittarius in your home. I look forward to seeing the coffin you built for Richard sometime, too.

Thanks Robert for the view and the comment! I'm glad you enjoyed it. You will have to visit Richard's house to see the coffin, as I built it before my RU-vid channel was founded, and there is no footage of it. Thanks again!

Well done Tinkerer. When are we going to get together and tinker up some climbing holds?

You name the time and place Sam. Although I will let you test them out. My physique is not conducive to hanging from small pieces of material. Thanks for the view and the comment. Call me some time and we will collaborate. Thanks.

I wish I could say there was my friend. I really want to proceed as well. I have a buddy that has volunteered to help me make a custom chassis, but so far he has been too busy for us to get together. I'm at his mercy with his offer of free help. Hopefully it will resume soon. I appreciate your view and comment!

What would the measurements be on a 13" segment bowl
@thetennesseetinkerer

James, I’m not sure what they would be. I found the measurements on the ones I turn by a bit of trial and error. However, if you search online for “segment bowl chart” or similar language, there are lots of resources from turners who have done the calculations already. A lot depends on the angle of the segments you use and their individual widths. The total number of segments is dependent upon the angles of each. For instance, if you use 10 segments, the angle on each side of each segment must be 18 degrees. 18 x 2 sides x 10 pieces = 360 degrees. The widest width of each segment is what determines the overall diameter after you settle on the other factors. More or less segments equals different angles. Those charts online take the guesswork out of it though. Best of luck with your projects. Thanks for the comment and the view!

Do you but your resources?

Not sure of the question. If you are asking if I buy my materials, the answer is yes and no. Supplies such as tools, nails, glue, etc., I purchase. Sometimes I am given wood by friendly people that enjoy my videos and projects. Sometimes I buy wood. Sometimes I get really good deals on wood by being at the right place at the right time. I hope this answers your question. Thanks!
