@Rob Lewis. Really? You can’t be serious. Allen’s not even in the top 50. How bout these: Coen Bros.,Steve Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock, Quentin Tarantino, Francis Ford Coppola, Ridley Scott and George Lucas. And a whole lot more. You’re no Siskel and Ebert.
Woody is a really delightful guy. I can see how he has captivated a lot of gorgeous women in his time. He's very good at pretending he's nothing special and forgets important things. But he's sharp as a newly honed blade. And he knows that we know that... haha. :-)
Woody's real talent I think is in plainly expressing the truth ... in a way where people don't really know if he is serious or joking, and that is where the tension in his humor is.
Regardless or what you think about WA personally....his movies are in a league by themselves. They have meaning, depth, they are usually hilarious, they have nuance, and make us think about ourselves. Years from now, no one will care about 95% of movies Hollywood puts out. There will be no Spderman, Fast and Furious, or other franchise retrospectives but WA's movies will be shown as long as people watch movies. Some of his movies are better than other but all have actors that are actually acting without the crutch of special effects, graphic sex scenes, and other fillers normally found in popular movies.
I'm surprised this only has 15,174 views! What a great documentary. Thank you! What he says is the essence of being an artist when it actually supports you.
Brilliant writer and filmmaker. Prolific would be an understatement. He's also fellow Brooklynite from the same neighborhood which I had grown up. His body of work depicts something about each and every human experience one can imagine.
I also grew up in the same neighborhood as him but 7 years later so I never ran into him. I lived at Ave K and E 12th St. Same PS 99, and even the same synagogue and hebrew school teacher. See his 2011 interview on YT for a tour of the neigborhood.
@@jessiedoggie1 Hey there! I did check that one out a few days ago. I was discussing it just yesterday with a buddy from E.10th & M, as we exchanged memories about the changes from days gone by. From NBC studios to Chestnut, Locust and Cedar Ave from days of yore. So very cool! We both were younger as well, 1951 births.
What a lovely compilation, thank you. I could honestly listen to Woody day in day out. I’ve had an unwavering affection and admiration for him for decades. He would consider it completely unwarranted, I’m sure. But he’s a gem.
Thanks woody for giving me delusions to survive. Your words are always like music to my ears. But frankly I am losing my will to live. I can’t stomach the harsh truths of life. Hope I can get painless exit soon
@@yuequ1866 The fleeting moments of pleasure do not outweigh or justify the suffering. This world is truly a horrid place. Woody would know what I mean, he's a pessimist too.
It's funny to me what he said about directing women, particularly Keaton. I've always viewed WA as the best director of women because he seems to understand them very well.
Names do come and go. I find that, not only is it natural during the aging process, but can be quite expedient at all age levels. so there's something for everyone.
Central flaw but revealed in art and simultaneously never approached- man in search of meaning. Upon running in this man i only said "Have a nice day, in spite of everything" In response, i got a short laugh. It was my 5 bytes moment. Had i time and opportunity, i would have cautioned him to work on searching for meaning. Time is short. It is each man's free will that allows us to search and how to search. Sticking to one's 'schtick' is ultimately limiting.
His early comedies are deliciously irreverent and speak to men who recognized themselves at the same age. His choice of muses in the Marx Brothers is again, a well of sweet waters. He has been an amazing observer of the passing world, and knows how to wield a critical knife towards human folly. Among his best: "Bananas", "Radio Days", "The Purple Rose of Cairo", "Annie Hall", the one in the future with Dianne Keaton. I'd love to talk to him over a good deli sandwich, but he'd no doubt find me boring and want to leave.
Americans have a hard time separating artists from their work. That's why we don't seem to get it. But the man sure could write jokes like nobody else.
Is the mojo still there? I prefer the irrational comedic response instead of a full analytic one. The early 70s interviews are the way he deserves to be remembered by. Bananas to all.
he's not talking about his life in particular. he's talking about life in general. it doesn't matter if you're rich or poor. life would still be tragic if everyone in the world became rich.
Telling comment about aging. His last dozen or so films have been hit and miss (mostly missed) warmed over leftovers from his halcyon period. Same plot, same nervous dialogue. Given his insulated vile lifestyle during this period, I am not surprised the "genius" is out of touch, the well runneth dry.
@@gerardovivanco5631 Finally, someone asked!!! A dozen or so super 8, 16 MM, some award winning in fact but small venues and zero groupies. Now take a chill pill Ger, I truly enjoyed Allen in his prime but he became repetitive - you continue to worship your false idol. But truth be told I coulda been a contender.
I’ve always respected Allen as an artist but the revelations from his adopted daughter that he molested her has totally destroyed my feelings towards him , it’s hard now to watch a movie from him without thinking about her heart felt interview about what she said he did to her !!!
He was cleared by two separate investigations. Investigators believed that Dylan had been coached. There was no physical evidence of an assault. Her stories have contained numerous contradictions, Meanwhile she is free to pursue civil charges as the statute of limitations have not expired ( DF has has incorrectly stated that they have).
Well, cheer up because it's a big LIE brought on by the fury from Mia Farrow after she caught Woody and Soon-Yi together. Allen is as much a child pervert as Hulk Hogan is a Nuclear physicist. It ain't reality.
MattieCooper it’s the most heinous thing to be accused of child rape and to have done it to a daughter in her case adoptive is disgusting if it’s not true then it’s an abomination on Farrows part to make such an accusation out of revenge....
Just putting aside whether Woody Allen did or did not do it... you decided one month ago to become appalled, when the allegation was made in 1992 ? Did you not believe the it until the "heartfelt interview" ? That's the evidence that tipped your opinion after 25 years of closed police investigations and passed lie detector tests, you have changed your entire opinion on the case due to one interview ? Either that or you have only just heard of the allegations and therefore know close to nothing else about the case other than the one interview you sat through, in which case I'd urge to do some more research instead of looking up Woody Allen interviews to tell everybody how much you dislike him, because you watched an interview last month about it.
Strictly for Allen fans. None of these clips contains much wisdom or insight, other than into Allen himself, but not about life in general. He's no philosopher.
@@lafetegalante Hey genius. Woody is real honest, huh? Married to Mia Farrow and having sex with his step-daughter, Soon-Yi. Now that’s an honest piece of shit if there ever was one. Well, he married his step-daughter after all. Wonder what she calls him. Woody or daddy? You’re a real genius, huh?
