I too am a camper/still working waiting to retire next year. Wanted something I could keep my hands busy while my driver was driving, LOL. So a Huge Thank you. Sue

Nicely done Anna and Greg. I'm not a fan of fusibles but will occasionally use it if the wool is very loosely woven. Do you ever cut a window in your fusibles so only the edge has the product and not the whole piece? Same question for the Pellone product, I ask because of all the additional layers of glue you have to stitch through.

Hi! I have a wool project and had no idea how to start - your video was very helpful. Could you tell me the model number of your Kai Scissor - there are so many! Also - I notice that the after you remove the fusible from the pieces that you are able to iron them right to the wool - does the adhesive stay on the wool? I'm new to wool but I just love the look of wool. I'm looking forward to starting on my project with the assistance of your video. Thanks, Sherry
@quiltroadies1695
@quiltroadies1695 7 лет назад
no sure of the model # but my too favorite are the 5 1/2 inch and the 3 inch...they are wonderful with wool. I have no problem with the soft fuse sticking to the wool but then I don't follow the direction and steam it down then turn it over and steam through the other side! I am excited for you!!!

Anna thank you ? Is there numbers on the soft fuse you buy? It is different than the SF 101, correct? I am very new to wool have I first Buttermilk basin kit and dont want to mess it up! Love your videos

Thank you so much for this tutorial, I'm heading over to watch part 2. I have a question, I have burned through 2 irons recently (both older irons and just gave up after much use). Needless to say I'm on the lookout to purchase a new iron and wanted to ask you what brand of iron do you have as it looks like a great iron. Would you recommend it? Thanks so very much! Linda Hardesty
@quiltroadies1695
@quiltroadies1695 7 лет назад
As much as we use our irons they are going to eventually burn up :( when looking for an iron I was looking at price point and if the plate had steam holes along the edge and close to the point. The one I found that I have liked is by Singer and I got it at Target!

craftoncue Even though by now you have gotten your iron, for others who might read this, the two great brands for sewers are Rowena and the Oliso Pro with itouch, which is great for quilters who often iron just a little bit here and there, in between sewing. With itouch the iron can lay flat on the ironing board but it will be elevated so that the hot parts do not touch the fabric. Then when you want to iron your touch alone will make it drop down the last fraction of an inch and touch the surface of the board with your fabric on it. Lots of quilt shops and Amazon sell both brands online so you can see how they work and read the reviews for yourself.

Starting my first wool project. Can you verify for me--when do you use the SF101 Pellon? I noticed you use the Soft Fuse for the smaller pieces. Is the SF 101 Pellon for larger pieces or backing of main wool that smaller pieces will be stitched to?

Great tutorial! I am a little confused between the soft fuse and SF101. When I google them, they are two totally different products. Which one should I buy to fuse the pieces? Thanks so much!
@quiltroadies1695
@quiltroadies1695 7 лет назад
To fuse the pieces you use Soft Fuse. The SF 101 is for the back of your whole project before you start stitching...the back of the base...clear as mud??? LOL

@quiltroadies1695

I do not wash my wool projects but they are all wallhangings. You can gently wipe them with a damp cloth but not knowing how the various pieces were felted it could be a recipe for disaster!

Hi Anna, I have some queries about wool fabric. I would like to start an applique project using wool. There are some fabric described as wool flannel -- I am confused because the description of these fabric is written as 100% cotton. Are there no true wool fabric for such projects? Thanks for any advise.
@quiltroadies1695
@quiltroadies1695 6 лет назад
Oh yes...there is a 100% wool...Wool Flannel is flannel that looks somewhat like wool for those allergic to wool but has a different feel. And Felt is another genre...although my least favorite as it has no dimension. Check out www.pioneerquiltshop.com/ they have a wonderful selection of wool and you will be sure to get quality wool...plus they sell the size you need...and kits, lol. Tell them I sent you :)

I just made a blouse with out interfacing and I want to make a light wool spring coat the pattern calls for a interfacing. I bought the lining do I have to use a interfacing to make this coat or can I just use the lining.
@quiltroadies1695
@quiltroadies1695 4 года назад
I have no clue as I have never sewn clothing...maybe someone here knows :)
@victorianeitz6769
@victorianeitz6769 4 года назад
It depends on the design of the jacket. Typically interfacing is used to give an area of a design more distinct shape, ie the collar or lapels or front of jacket where buttons may go. There are so many styles in today’s fashion though that are very flowy, that perhaps the interfacing is not what you want in your look. Hope this helps in some way. Happy sewing!

What is the difference between: soft fuse and freeze paper? and how use it? Thanks
@quiltroadies1695
@quiltroadies1695 5 лет назад
Soft Fuse is a fabric product that has a fusible on one side and Freezer paper is a paper product with a waxy side that will stick...but not permanently. They are used in entirely different ways :)

they have a black handle and are about 6 inches with a serrated blade which makes it cut through wool like butter. Also they are sharp all the way to the tip! They are my favorite but when it comes to scissors it how it fits your hand so try them out and check the feel!
