An update on two things... 1. I forgot to show that there is a swatch card inside the cardboard packaging slipcover - Handy! 2. Woomer have also responded about my confusion with the pencil names in the Lightfast Test, this is their reply; "The reason for the discrepancy in the model number you referred to is that it was the pencil core that was sent in for testing. So the results are written with the core model number corresponding to the factory, while the number on the colored pencils corresponds to the final product that was produced." Interesting! Need to find that lightfast Goldenrod! 😉 And finally... these pencils are not yet available on Amazon UK 😕 but Woomer have provided a 10% discount code off the pencils on Amazon US via this link:- amz.run/9Wru Happy Colouring!

The thing that makes your reviews stand out is how much you honestly care about each medium you test and how thoroughly you test each thing to ensure that we benefit from adding these items to our art collection. 😊 And you are so involved and excited about each step that I need to see the results! It's refreshing to see someone so dedicated to their craft and tools. ❤ You make me want to create! 🥰

Phew, that was a mammoth in depth play date brought to you by Inspector Lily of the Yard 🤩 I was thinking that they'd played sneaky buggers and switched out the pencils for that other well known brand, it would be interesting (but far too much work) to see if that other brand's 72 set matched the report🤔 Anyhoo, hope you're all doing well and enjoying your well deserved rest 😘

Wow, what a wonderfully informative test and video! Thank you so much for all your hard work! The pencils that faded seem to be some of the usual culprits, but i was surprised that more of the reds and pinks didn't fade!

I love watching you test products! Very interesting review. Like you, lightfastness doesn’t matter to me , for the same reasons. Seems to me, that as there are so many “budget friendly artist quality” pencil sets out there, this company paid for a cheap test so they had a unique selling point. Some lovely colours though - 415 is my favourite if anyone’s interested! 🤣x

Very tempting. At my age these are probably lightfast enough. The color arrangement is a little odd. I did try to post a reply earlier but it seems to have disappeared, if it shows up I'll delete one......

@colorcrazy2944 See I'm not sure the point of lightfast testing, apart from you can say "these have been lightfast tested". But that's like me saying "I've been timed running the marathon". That time was 18h.. but I was still recorded! It kinda means nothing if it doesn't compete with the true athletes...

I've never tried the Schpirerr Farben as I'm not a fan of hard pencils so have avoided purchasing them. I'll have to dig out/find my Cezannes to remind myself what they are like. Although I might have given them away (which I did with any pencils that were in the "harder than I'd like" category)

Help!!!. Are we still doing this? Did the Woomer vendor realize what he was asking? We're talking about $30 pencils! $30! The pencils are great for colorist. Anyone selling art wouldn't consider using an unknown product such as this...right? Anyway, for the price, these pencils are able to hold their own against any other $30 pencil. I acknowledge only the minimal four weeks of testing took place and if they were left out longer, the test may have shown lightfastness closer to the Blue Wool Standards results. Also the pencils have obviously gone through a bit of change since testing... may be they were improved, which presents better than not being able to live up to the rating assigned. Some of the other pencils on your list should improve or lower their rating. For example Stephanie Kilgast did light fast testing for several brands of pencils, some for 2 years and some for 1 year, before presenting results. She recommends Caran d’Ache Luminance(1) and Royal Talens' Van Gogh (2) for lightfastness. Ms. Kilgast found Prismacolor's ASTM rating to be is spot on, so users can just check the pencil before using it for their purpose. However Polychromos results were "disappointing to say the least". She acknowledged Faber-Castell's test to be 20 years old, but in my opinion for the price paid in the U.S., the user shouldn't have to question the the accuracy of this product's rating. At least with Prismacolors, you know exactly what you're getting. Since even the new Polychromos pencils tested all faded, Ms. Kilgast wouldn't recommend the brand for anyone who holds lightfastness important. Google/youtube presents other testers who received similar results, which is the reason Caran d'Ache Pablo weren't recommended. Another youtuber, name I can't remember, said looking at the Pablo pigment list allows artist to easily see which colors have a chance of fading. He stated Pablo (also, Supracolor and Prismalo) ratings seem to be based on short-time artificial UV tests which don’t provide accurate results about the products lightfastness in normal household lighting. No matter the testing, colored pencil vendors/manufactures aren't forthright with ratings. This makes it difficult to assume how a pencil will perform longterm and even what information the vendor is attempting to present. For example Lisa Lachri explained Faber-Castell's Star System is based on "the Blue Wool Scale of 1-8". If that's true, why not just use the Blue Wool Scale? You mentioned the ASTM scale has 5 ratings while other artist are now saying the newer ASTM consists of 4 ratings... And maybe this is what Caran d'Ache is using???? I agree with the guy who's name I can't remember. Anyone who wants to be absolutely sure should place their swatches on a sunny window for the entire summer. That should be enough time to tell the really bad colors from useful ones. Most artist know fluorescent pigments like BV10, which makes opera rose beautiful, are fugitive and synthetic/organic pigments such as Phthalo PG7 are stable, so they could test the questionable ones. By now you should be able to tell I've watched way.... too many "lightfast" rating videos not to be getting paid for art.🤣🤣🤣 Are colorist legally able to sell artwork done using another artist's line drawing? And what about artist who conflate alcohol markers with color pencils... which negates the colored pencil's lightfastness anyway? Maybe I need more data, or less.🧐😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵🥴 Anyway, much love to you for taking on this endeavor. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Fantastic testing! As always, thank you for the effort and all the research. This info is very helpful. Yes, the Woomer pencils are higher than average in price, but the fact that they are actually lightfast at all makes them worth the extra cost. I think these are a good value for the money. I can see these being used by those who like to hang up their finished works in places that are not in direct sunlight. (My finished pages don't leave the books they're in, but admittedly, I broke down bought a set of these a few days ago before I saw this review just because I was curious.)

@ArtJourneyUK
@ArtJourneyUK 13 дней назад
@katsmith8263 It's enough to get an idea of which colours are very fugitive. Also, the official test only rates them as 4-5 anyway (as I showed) which isn't considered lightfast to the same degree as Luminance and Derwent Lightfast pencils 🥰

I would NEVER depend on a $30 Chinese pencil set for anything lightfast. if someone truly needs lightfast materials for commissions and important projects I hope they are buying a few pencils from the trusted legacy brands instead. That being said this was an interesting test. I think the pencils overall look nice and I like the orange tin. One thing I didn’t like is how some is the pencils look very similar to each other… especially since this is a 72 set.
