WOW you went to two places where historical members of my family are buried: 1] Claines, The Mug House graveyard is the resting place of many Attwoods. Dr. Thomas Attwood was a catholic during the eighteenth century and as such practised medicine illegally. It seems that a blind eye was turned as he lent the city a large sum of money. He left a large sum of money in his will to set up Worcester Royal Infirmary. 2] The Cathedral is the resting place of another relative Sir John de Beauchamp. He was Receiver of the Chamber {treasurer of the Exchequer} and Keeper of the King's Jewels, the King was his son's godfather. The other noblemen became jealous and he was impeached and then beheaded for treason on Tower Hill. His tomb is right near the entrance and sports the figure of himself and his wife with their heads resting on the wings of a swan and a dog at their feet. Also, the Cathedral is the resting place of King Henry VIII's older brother Prince Arthur who died at Ludlow Castle.
Wow back at you! That's some incredible history right there, I'm extremely impressed! Just watched this video back myself tonight and I can't wait to revisit these places. Worcester is an amazing city, so much rich history. Thanks very much for sharing, very cool! Stay safe and best regards to you
@@BIRMZE Just seen that you hale from Birmingham. The Attwood relatives were very active there too, another Thomas Attwood owned a bank called Attwood and Spooner there and was the high bailiff for Birmingham. He campaigned for everyone to have the vote and together with: Lord Brougham; Lord Russell and Earl Grey he was instrumental in the passing of the first Reform Act in 1832, that meant that more people in this country had the right to vote and it got rid of 'rotten boroughs'. He was Birmingham's first MP. There used to be a statue to him in Larches Green, Sparkbrook, but it was defaced and the arm was ripped off, it is now in storage. There is a more modern bronze statue of him reclining on the steps in Centenary Square in the centre of Birmingham. We only discovered our family history by accident when my mother contacted a demolition team who had taken down a row of houses that had belonged in the family and they gave her a political token that had been recovered from the back of the fireplace. I live in Worcestershire and regularly shop in Worcester, so your video was very interesting. If you revisit, go and have a look in the Costa coffee shop opposite the Guild Hall. Set in the wall is the death mask of William Guise, he was hung for being a traitor during the civil war, the shop is also said to be haunted.
@@BIRMZE, To be honest, I usually shop most weekends in Worcester city centre, but I stopped going in just before the coronavirus lockdown. It is apparently a place where although the death rate from it has subsided, the infection rate is on the increase there again, so I won't be going in for a while. Thoroughly sick of coronavirus by now and wish it would BUGger off, so we can all have some nice summer days out. Still, the local pub is doing cheap takeaway Sunday lunches and there is a travelling wood fired pizza van that we get car picnics from in picturesque spots.
I worked in this place. I experienced quite a few bizarre and unexplainable things. One of which - I was carrying a stack of plates across the kitchen, my necklace flew off and landed right across the kitchen. I picked it up to find it was done up.
I live in Worcester and have been to all of those places you went in the video. I work at the cathedral for a day every year. I have seen orbs fly around every where and candles blown out. When I closed off the cathedral my mum and grandparents were at the other side by the door that leads down to the river where vikings would hang skin on there, I heard footsteps and saw someone dressed like king John. My first thought was is that a mockery or something. I asked the figure if they would politely leave the cathedral as we have a service going on, your welcome to sit at the back with the public if you so wish. The figure turned to me and gave me an uneasy face. It gives me nightmares still. I still go and do my job there every year. I hope that if I ever see that figure again I could apologise if I came off rude in anyway. Whenever I go to that spot you can always see orbs flying around. Some parts of the cathedral make me feel a bit uneasy like the corridor by the main hall and café. I always feel like I'm being watched, but I still go down there because it is my duty to take people to their seats or ask them politely if they could leave or if the wish to stay and sit down with the public whilst the service goes on, not with the people who have reserved seats like; high judges, mayor, high sheriff of Worcester and his p.a my Nan.
My fella is from Malvern which is just over the river from Worcester and he's a experienced traditional ghost hunter and practioner of white magic. Go to malvern as the Abbey is haunted and the priory is haunted by a benedictine monk.
A courthouse turned into a pub. That's some much needed change I am talking about. I want more courthouses to be turned into pubs. Also parliaments and party HQs...
My brother was buried at Claines Church.... There are three ghosts in Claines Lane that died in an accident in the 70´s. There is another at the Cathedral of a Viking that was skinned and nailed to the door. Also, Worcester was the major seat of justice in the Midlands for many years. all lost in time.
Love it , love it, love it!! Sooo spooky!! I couldn’t look away, want to go there now and will watch again for all the knowledge you dropped on us. Fab work Birmze!!
Battle of Worcester 3000 killed The Battle of Worcester, the last battle of the Civil Wars, was fought on 3rd September 1651; nine years earlier the first substantial action of the war had taken place barely two miles to the south of the city, at Powick Bridge.
I'm actually so ashamed that I've only been to London! Really cool listening to your storytelling (just needed a minute or two to get over the thick British accent) 😛 Good work! 👏
Great question, I know all these areas, all very different, depends what you are looking for, all have quality boozers of course 😂 I was in Cheltenham not long ago which is on the doorstep of the Cotswolds. Cleeve Hill is next door, the highest point of the Cotswolds and you get some cracking views up there.
Where did you move to in the end, just out of interest? I've lived in Worcester and Cheltenham and am very fond of both although there's more going on in Cheltenham generally. Gloucester and Hereford are great for day trips.
St Albans Church Deansway. I worked there and was attacked by a jar of sauce, flung out of a kitchen cupboard, landing behind my feet. This was in front of a witness who said they saw the cupboard open as I walked past it. Another witness, who did not see the actual incident in the kitchen or even know about it, said they saw me walk through the main room and that I had a shadow, when I went into the kitchen the shadow stayed at the kitchen door and did not enter with me! So much happened in that building that could leave no doubt about hauntings
I'm a Worcestershire local but have never been in The Mug House, so it was nice to go on your video ghost tour of the place! :D Incidentally, Henry VIII's older brother, Prince Arthur, is also entombed in the Cathedral.
Live next to a city in central Massachusetts named Worcester also, really wanted to hear how you say it. Honestly not very different at all, but people outside of New England say it different kind of funny. This looks far more interesting than the city I live near though lol!
I know people that neck of the woods I may have to check it out! Yeah the pronunciation of Worcester has been a tongue twister for some time now lol Glad you enjoyed the video, cheers!
Great vlog, but I will say my friend; As a worcester local I’ve never seen any ghosts at any of those pubs. However if you want to see anything really freaky go to the whetherspoons on a Saturday night ;)
and i read theres a phantom bear that roams the cathedral grounds and rears up when it appears then vanishes...its been seen as early as the civil war and as late as the 70,s
