You only need the OceanWP Elementor extension if you want to tap into the default Wordpress menus (which is mentioned around 3:50 into the video). If you want to create your own custom menu or use the widgets that are part of Elementor (or the latest version of Elementor Pro (v1.8) you can do that also. So, you don't actually 'need' to buy the OceanWP plugins, but it does make the process easier.

What's the difference from making a custom header (template) through: theme panel -> my library (using oceanWP) elementor -> my templates, what are the drawbacks if any to either one? generally speaking should i try to add edit / and adjust content through my Theme oceanWP, or through elementor, or even backend in wordpress?

I am getting an error when I tried to access Elementor after I did some style changes in Customize "Invalid data the template ID cannot be the same as the currently edited template. Please choose a different one" Any ideas?

Why does your elementor have a green Save but mine says Update? I created a header with an image, then I can't remember how but my site identity in a new section under the image, then the final section below that was my main menu. For some reason I'm getting 2 problems: 1st my menu end sup between my Site name and Site Description, 2nd the formatting i gave my menu in the customize screen isn't loading. Any ideas?

I've noticed that on some websites i.e. using the GoodDay theme the Footer has a cool static (reverse paralax) effect where the content is static and it reveals from behind. How's that possible in ELEMENTOR?

I am watching the video and I go through all the steps that are described. However, I have no extra piece of Ocean Elements in elementor where the navigation menu is located. This only works with a pro version. I installed Oceanwp and installed the plug-in Ocean Extra. What am I doing wrong?

I'm using Elementor 2.7.3. I see the exact icon you see, but mine comes out in a list instead of across. Is there a way to change it to horizontal instead?

"Nothing covered in this video requires you to have the PRO version" Either I am missing something or some extensions are now only available in PRO, since this video was recorded, but I do not see i.e. the Navigation widget (around/at 6:20 in the video) as a free element.

You can create your own custom menus using various methods without the need for Pro or the OceanWP add-ons, but if you want to get the most flexible range of options, the OceanWP Elementor add-ons are recommended. This does NOT require the Pro version of Elementor.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough - I am talking about Elementor vs. Elementor Pro. The Navigation Widget you enter at around 6:20 in the video is not part of the free Elemntor version. Or are you saying, that it is a widget in the OceanWP Elementor plugin/add-on. Anyways - I don't think that your statement "Nothing covered in this video requires you to have the PRO version [of any tool or theme you are talking about]" is true

Great tutorial, much appreciated! I followed along and tried to create a custom header for my site, but I'm not able to figure out how I can make the custom header with a transparent background. No matter what I do -- clear the background for my section, clear the background for my rows, etc. -- the custom header always shows up on my site with a white background. Is it possible to create a transparent custom header?

Hello, first I want to thank you. I used the free version of ocean wp and I inserted the default wordpress options to create my menu on elementor. it works. Responsively, my menu is not a hamburger. do you think maybe if i had used the pro version of ocean wp using the pro options, i would have gotten a hamburger menu by default in responsive? ( im french i used google traduction :D )

This is the same question I have. But I guess the idea is, follow his instruction then find your on way to create one. Otherwise pay for the PRO.LOL!!! @Kas Whi, go to your elementor and look in the add anither group then go to widget, and search for navigation, just drag whatever you prefer (as of now you they have two option to choice from) and then you can customize them.

Tuts - hey how can we add a transparent gradient overlay? I like to have the image behind the header or banner image, but then have the image fade out so the text is easy to read. I can't find a place for the direction/transparency slider. Do you know where this is?

TA check the horizontal bar underneath the colour grading box. Slide it to zero to reduce the image opacity.

So I purchased OceanWP with all the add-ons. Now I'm trying to find if you can add a specific header template to a specific page? As I don't want the same hear on ALL my pages. Does anyone know if this is possible? Been looking around the Pages options but haven't yet found the solution....

I found the Shortcode Widget and used that in a *new section. So at least I found one way how to do it. Would be good if you could simply use this in the Page dialogue box.

You can also achieve different headers on a per page basis using the OceanWP Hooks feature - there's more info here: docs.oceanwp.org/article/375-altering-header-style-by-page You may need to log into your account to view the page though. I haven't tried it yet, but will have a look when I get some spare time and depending upon the complexity involved, may put a tutorial together on the topic. Hope that helps :0)

Hi. Yes, if you set up a custom header with OceanWP it will apply to all pages unless you specific an alternative when creating specific pages.

I managed to create the custom header and apply it to the WooCommerce Shop Page which shows my Catagories! Is there a way to apply it to the Products Page & Single Products Page? Am I correct that these pages are "Archive pages, and therefore you cant' edit them?

Working on a community group website that I am a member of and I've made the navigation in OceanWP. I have ElementorPro but no addition OWP widgets so nav is totally OWP. But what I find is I can't change the background colour of the navbar desoite being able to change the individual button colours. I am missing something in OWP somewhere I am sure. Site is on test domain at www.formresult.co.uk if you care to see what I mean. Any ideas? I am sure it must be something simple I am missing.

Hi and another excellent vid for WP newbies like myself. What would you think about using OceanWP with Elementor to build a simple website for a small boutique shop and maybe adding WooCommerce at a later date if there is interest to purchase online? (or, is it standard practice to have WooCommerce as the base for any shop website from the start?) Looking forward to your follow up tutorials on OceanWP. Regards Kevin

Kev S I think it makes for a great platform. Start with what you need right now and add in WooCommerce when you're ready to start selling online. I've done a similar thing myself and it worked really well.. I would generally avoid building WooCommerce in from the start as you'll just be adding unnecessary bloat to the site for no real benefit.

You can't edit the search results page of Wordpress with Elementor I'm afraid. If you want to get in and edit the core Wordpress pages, you'll need to look at something like Anywhere Elementor which opens those pages up for you.

I'm afraid not, Elementor (including Pro) doesn't offer this feature at the moment. There may be some free WP addons that will allow you to create Sticky Headers, but I've not tried them sorry.

I am comparing GeneratePress to OceanWP. So far OceanWp definitely has more options in the free version. I have the GP premium and there it adds an option on every page to add a custom header. I can not find that in the premium add ons of Ocean WP eather. Still a great theme!

Have a look at the OceanWP Hooks, you can set anything you want before the top of the page, so could easily create multiple header templates and 'hook' those in on a per page basis.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me about this. So far, those hooks are a big grey area to me, did not get into it. I had a suggestion from Nicolas today actually to add this in child theme's functions.php : docs.oceanwp.org/article/459-alter-the-page-header-background-image. He also said he would integrate headers per page soon in coming updates. Could I just add that php code into the hooks?

You'll need to install Ocean Extras. It's the free OceanWP plugin that opens up the extra options.

The navigation widget is only available in the OceanWP Elementor add-on. If you have Elementor Pro, you could use that instead. 👍

I've been working on a new site with Ocean and Elementor and when I go to the WP Customized I get a 404 error. I went to Bluehost Chat and was told the problem is Ocean. Since I have the free version of Ocean, I can get absolutely no help from you. So I'm about to switch to another theme.

Hi Jean, sorry to hear you're having issues. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what you mean by getting no help from me. Just to clarify, I'm not associated with the people behind OceanWP. But I would recommend joining the OceanWP Facebook group where the developers are very active and could more than likely help you troubleshoot your problem. As for Bluehost, I've heard pretty poor feedback to their services on various groups and RU-vid comments, so it may not be specifically down to OceanWP alone.

I'm also getting stuck with navigation/menu issues. The Elementor plugin for the Wordpress menu is so awful. It's a vertical list of the pages with a bullet point next to each one and there is no editing it at all. Wish I wouldn't have to pay $50 for elementor just for a nav feature.

What is the opimal pixel size for this logo?

That's really dependent on your header design more than anything. Generally, I would make it around 250 - 300px wide if it's a slender logo like used in this demo. If it's square, probably smaller.

Hello I am currently using flatsome in our website www.kaaraba.com, we are thinking to switch to oceanwp theme and continue using our elementor pro , but I wanted to know if we can use a search products bar like we do have in our header. Our search bar search only for products and SKU. We want to keep that , because some of other theme the search bar looks also for blogs or other items. We do like the search bar in both mobile version and desktop version too in order to offer to our visitors the best experience possible

There is a oceanwp sticky header widget on oceanwp site (aprx $10/year) I've also seen a free one (that I had issues w) called MYSTICKYMENU . I'm sure you'll be ok w/mystickymenu. I had problems getting the class code I needed once my menu was up-you put that into the widget and it sticks so i spent the $10 -I figure by the time I have it up and running I'll get it sorted and cancel for next year (but guys, I'm clueless-so see if you can find instructions on youtube. the oceanwp works wonderfully!

I use that plugin to create a sticky header. wordpress.org/plugins/sticky-menu-or-anything-on-scroll/. That works fine for me!

IF you get the Elementor Pro there is a slider to turn on the sticky header! I managed to muck it up bc I had added mystickymenu. Then when I came across the sticky menu on EP-I ticked that-OMG they cancelled each other out. But when I realized it I couldn't remember WHERE the sticky header tick box was on Elementor Pro...So if you get pro DON'T use their sticky header if you use one of the others...

I have followed this tutorial, and I have also problem with navigation panel or main menu panel. I add the menu from WP which is possible, but it misses the search icon, so I need to add another search bar but it is not possible to add to the main menu, so it's not that cool. jakuzdravitdusi.cz

Ocean wp and elementor doesn't go well now. There is a plugin conflict.

Would you care to elaborate on that statement? I use them both daily and haven't found any issues at all.

WPTuts when I use ocean wp theme, in the elementor editor the bottom buttons that is- update, preview changes etc. None of them work. As soon as I tried a different simple theme like twenty sixteen everything works fine. Even I Don know the reason why it happens with ocean wp. As far as I am concerned it's a plugin conflict. What are your views and do you hv any solutions? Would love to hear from you :-)

To be honest, the first thing I would do is deactivate all plugins, then just add Elementor in and see if the issue is still there. If not, add each plugin back in based upon importance to the project to see where the conflict lies. I would also suggest reaching out to the developers of OWP and Elementor with information on the setup you're using as it seems a little odd to have this issue. It may also be worth checking that you have enough resources available for the plugins to run effectively. Check memory, execution time, etc for the server setup.

WPTuts thank you. Hv checked everything. Found out that ocean wp extra plugin was the plugin. So if I don't use ocean wp extra plugin the theme 's functionality is compromised. So I had to change the entire theme itself.

Hey! You need to install and activate the Ocean Extra plugin (the one they recommend) and then the Theme Panel will be visible. I hope that helps! -Zoe
