So Fkn true last year for Christmas we didn’t get raises but still do a Fkn stupid Christmas party on a Friday AFTER work and have a raffle for 2 watches and a sht ass 40” smart tv … Fkn smack in the face every time. And one of the watches my boss got who sits in the office all day lol. If I was in his position I would have given that sht watch to one of the new guys raise their spirts up or at least try.
He just says what we are all thinking but too afraid to say to our boss... refusing to go to a social event at work is like putting a target on your back. You might not get fired, but your life at work will become a bit more difficult.
That bonus sounded like a good idea. Or you could just let everyone who had perfect attendance go home four hours early but still get paid for the full shift on that day.
A company never does something to give the worker a boon. There is always an ulterior motive, whether tax write offs, some legal obligation and etc. Companies would sacrifice your children to beelzebub if they could get away with it and it'd end up with them getting 1 cent more on the bottom line.
back when I was in the military, the squadron bought a bunch of MLB tickets. I had no interest. I was told I could either go to the baseball game, or be the one guy stuck at work. so I went. I brought a book. never looked at the game. my boss was mad. "we spent all this money on you and you couldn't even be bothered to watch?" "what part of "I have no interest in baseball" did you not understand?"
I would've probably picked work, lol. At least it would be quiet with everyone else at the stupid game. Plus, there's probably no task lined up, so I might be able to just read at work or something.
@@theuncalledfor no, there were tasked lined up. some idiot reserve pilot looped one of our helicopters. because he thought it would be fun. we spent 9 months of 18 hour days getting that SH-2 flying again. I didn't want the "why didn't you do more" when they got back from the game. never mind we weren't supposed to work alone for safety.
@@warhorse03826 Safety is just some shit they say for the cameras and lawyers. Aint no safety when they get strained for people, and shit, I can't remember the last time everyone WASN'T strained for people. Starting to think it's just a big conspiracy to explain hiking prices up.
@@rantingguy1726 military. so cameras? lawyers? LOL yeah right. the reason they want 2 people is when you do a job 2 people sign off on it being done. if there isn't 2 signatures, you rip it all out and do it again. I hate doing shit twice, don't you?
My Lord. My job has a horrible turnover. We can't keep people longer than 3 months tbh. But management has "Incentives" and thinks this makes people WANT to work. They put a pingpong table in the break room thinking we want to play ping pong on our 30 min lunch from our 12 hour day. Anyone here reading this, if your in a management role: Time at work= compensation Pay people for the quality of their work and not the quantity of the bare minimum.
The Pizza party thing is definitely true. Worked on many construction jobs and they have a pizza party at the end of the job and say the same bullshit. We appreciate your work and all that happy shit and nobody says anything back to him.
This reminds me of mandatory fun day. Once we were told to hike up a mountain while my sgts talked shit down to me. I left once i got sick of walking through 3ft of snow.
Lmao i remember once being threatened to be fired if I, a night shift worker that worked 7 to 7, didnt come into a fucking ice cream party at 1 pm after my shift. I just hung up and blocked my works number
@@hyper_tex9834 You get what you pay for. If the company wants to go cheap on labor you'll get a shifty product. If your paying 4x the cost of living then you'll attract quality candidates. Any company that pays below living wages or hires undocumented workers should burn to the ground.
But when was it ever a party? Get some pizza and go hide somewhere because you can't stand the jerks you work with. Then, when the "" party"" is over, management makes you clean up the break room!
He speaks the truth. Companies waste money on garbage instead of paying those who show up every day. They pay those that don't more to get them to show up. Those that do it every day, like myself gets treated like crap.
When I was a bank teller, myself and the senior teller were the only ones to stay through COVID, but did we get a raise or a bonus? Nope! We worked for months just the two of us at a branch meant for 8 tellers. I found out the new hires where making more than us BEFORE they were trained, because the company needed to incentivize people to work there. They did not, however, give the people who stuck with the bank any sort of bonus or even match our pay with the new hires. White collar pulls all the same shit
God, this just reminds me so much of my old job. 'Incentives' was always the word of the day. "Here's some Pizza. We've got nachos in the break room. Look, a ping pong table!" I swear, I probably missed every day I could without getting fired. My new job has a much better incentive, They simply pay me enough to make it worth my damn time!
It could be worse, you could work night-shift like me and not even be around to GO TO any of those events. Then again being left alone to do my work without a bunch of dumbasses around is it's own kind of incentive that is sweeter than those.
Worked in a shipyard that promised bonuses for everyone who worked 7 tens until a job was done. It was done and the VERY FEW of us who were left in the pool never got a goddamn cent.
my company did a district wide sales contest and management was gonna take the winners out to eat, and all i could think was "damn I am glad we lose every time now"
Oh I'll have perfect attendance, except for the 4 hours of bowling. I'd miss those hours just to spite them, especially if they try to mandate it. Ridiculous. good job Marshall you always make me laugh!
Lol , had a boss that talked about bonuses yet never delivered even though we reached the objectives. After several failed bonuses one day he started his bonus crap . I stopped him mid sentence in front of the crew and told him that his idea of a bonus was to bone us and i dont want to hear about it . We're going to reach the objective wheter you bone us or not . He turned and walked away . Later that afternoon he called me over to his truck to tell me he didn't appreciate the way i talked to him in front of the crew . I asked him why he thought it was necessary to lie to us for motivation when we were a good crew ? He told me he didn't lie to us . And i called him out on that lie . I said look , myself and the guys are fairly pissed off at you so you need to stop talking about this bone us crap and if he really wants to show his appreciation let us go home at noon on Friday and pay us for the whole day . He got the message and began letting us go on Friday at noon with a whole days pay . Wound up being a good guy to work for , but i had to motivate him 💪
Immediate thought: If this is a reward, why are we clocking out early? I'm hourly, and I need to get all the hours I can in this economy. I can barely afford to live on what you pay me, why would I want to spend 4 hours doing work stuff off the clock and not getting paid for it? The problem is that the people who come up with these incentives are the ones who have had that office job for 20-30 years and are economically secure that anything short of losing their job won't effect them. These people would throw you in a furnace if they could make an extra buck and get away with it.
Shit, even without pay. I don't bowl a lot but I do enjoy it. All I'd do if I got off 4 hours early would be to sit at home on my computer so a free bowling trip? Sure.
@@randomlyentertaining8287 fair enough, guess I could eat pizza, nachos, and drink rootbeer while I'm there. Maybe a pack of gummy bears. Better not be that thin 5 minute roller oven pizzas though. And good chili for the nachos. Seriously if I'm there for 4 hours I want a decent bite after work. Food is like 25% of what makes a place of entertainment worth the trip.
@@biecie Plus if they aren't paying for the food they can't really say they "took you out bowling" cause tasty junk food and beer is PART OF BOWLING in my opinion anyway, I mean why half-ass a tradition? Whole-ass it.
Edit x3 If they give you money they and you have to pay taxes on it, but if they pay to take you bowling, dont use any of the electricity, turn all the shit off in the shops except security, they can use that as a tax write off. The government doesnt want companies giving you more money when they can just demand the company give it straight to the government. Democrat/rino governments.
as someone that's a Supervisor with limits on what I can do for my team. I go under management's nose and if the team does a good job I let them leave 2hrs early almoat everyday an get paid in full. no complaints on the contract so I'm not risking anything on my end and giving my team (even though I wish my own bosses would listen to me on raises) a bit incentive to do good.
That's reasonable. Always let your best workers leave a little early whenever you're able to... ESPECIALLY, your best floater. Sometimes TIME is just as appreciated as pay. I don't always need a raise for my hard work. Sometimes I just wanna go home a couple hours early if I'm not needed. A good floater needs a break. And you don't have to send them ALL home early everyday. You can rotate if need be.
Its not hard if your not happy and your company isnt paying you what you deserve or treat you right go find another job. You know how many now hiring signs i almost hit reading stupid work emails on the way to work every day? Lol point being this day just about every company is looking for good reliable employees. Reliable and dependable is key. Oh and of course common sense.
There were multiple tests on this actually. About 98% of those signs mean jack shit, the companies are not hiring and the signs are there only to placate the overworked skeleton crew with mirrage of releif.
Yeah, that's be a great idea if 90% of jobs didn't pay poverty wages. The now hiring signs that you see are there for a reason. It's because they don't pay shit, and they're often a draining place to work. They should pay more to offset the draining part, but they don't because most employers are greedy. Companies get reliable people when they pay a wage that you can afford rent, food, bills, and have some left over. Anything less and they should be grateful that they have workers that show up half the time.
My job had it where we would get an extra $1000 a month if we showed up to work everyday for the month. When the company saw they had perfect attendance from EVERYBODY they cancelled it the month after 😂
I worked for a company that spent thousands of dollars each week on incentives. Food, giftcards, etc... A petition went out to management with a HUGE number of signatures that simply said, "We would prefer if the money spent on incentives was given as a bonus for perfect monthly attendance. Remaining money could be used as bonuses for highest quality work for the month on top of it." Management stopped doing the incentives that next month and we all got excited when they said they had an announcement. "Due to complaints about our incentive program we have decided to end the program." The number of people who quit the next month was STAGGERING.
I don't even know what that is but considering it's made of popcorn, I'm guessing it's about... $5 at best? and for Amazon that's BAD, am surprised there wasn't some story about a massive walk-out/quitting wave hitting them after that, I'd be so insulted as to drop it on the ground the moment it was handed to me.
So if my math is right there’s 8.4 people working there if you divide up the net cost of bowling once a month and giving out $10,000 dollar salary raises
Bro my company came up with the idea to give us gift cards to Nike and amazon... I went to HR and told them I don't suppoet Slavery like they do I guess and ripped the paper in front of them. Said they could just give us the money on our checks instead...
Well, hold on now, will there be alcohol served and paid for by the company. I would definitely work overtime that day if there is free beer. Believe that!
Company: you go to have perfect attendance in order to be apart of this Event. *Closes warehouse down for a Week. Company: nobody came in for a week so we’re not Going bowling.
Damn Wright pay you more i actually no companies that do stuff like that not bowling but like pizza every friday and two small safety bonuss a year 1 in june and December its only like 50cent every hour u work
I hate bowling. It is unbelievably boring. I went like... twice. I kinda enjoyed it a little the first time IIRC. And the second time I was just bored and wanted to go home. Or maybe I only went once and it took so long that it felt like twice. I honestly don't remember.
You say this, but to be honest, if I got paid to go bowling, I could live with that, because you know they won't give us a raise. But I'd rather get a raise.
I give my employees bonuses. But the trouble part of bonus incentives is that you’d think it is straightforward but never is. The first time I did a bonus, one of my guys took one day off because his child was hospitalized. Half the guys were mad I was “punishing” him for that. So I paid the bonus. Then people were mad that they didn’t get it after taking days off for personal medical problems. Then it was “okay if your child is sick, but fuck you if you personally were sick”. Then it was “company discriminates against people without children.” Then it was “X is a parent and gets to miss days, Y is not a parent and gets screwed over” It is a never-ending bunch of drama.
Crabs in a bucket. Boss talks about giving new hires 2 weeks vacation to start instead of 1 and the old timer is whining that that's not what HE got 10 years ago and it isn't fair. Like, just be happy things are improving, jeez.
I never liked these i just to home and lose the hours. Im not sitting around a bunch of mangers upper mangers ceos and so on, and acting on my best behavior for them. Nah im going to an event place im drinking and playing skiball
So you're going to shut down for four hours during the week, guaranteeing that we don't get any OT while we are forced to unpaid bowl and get behind on the contract, do I have that right?
I worked in a place that tried bowling as an "incentive". Why the scare quotes? Because the real reason they did it is so they could use our behavior when we had access to alcohol and a competitive environment to adjust our yearly reviews, and find negative things to say about the people who performed highly enough to be allowed to go bowling.
I feel this. But on the other hand I've seen first hand higher pay rarely means better work. It usually means a better attitude for 1-2 weeks then that person is back to where they started. I do wish though, companies would chill on the whole family thing.
Where I work at we ask for a attendant bonus for 6 years, company said " not in the budget " then COVID hit, people won't come back, new hires would walk out etc... well now guess what. It's suddenly in the budget. ( for the last two years now)
I mean, a business can afford a tax write-off a whole lot easier than paying more. Every dollar paid is more expensive than the actual money getting to your pocket, between unemployment fund, income tax, workman's comp, pensions, vacation, etc. If you can find a company outing that your guys actually want to do, it can be significantly cheaper through the company than it would be to pay them enough to do it themselves. The trouble is finding something your guys like, instead of pretending they want to have another pizza party or go bowling every month.
People like this make work more miserable for everyone. Last your when I did a questionnaire for my employees, and asked them what changes they would like to see, the most common answer was to have a party for them. For a price of around 50 buck per person we organized an all-night party with a dj, food and free booze (it's a hotel, so it's cheaper). Employees loved it - sure, there is always someone who doesn't want to come and would rather get the 50 bucks, but you can't discount the fact that most employees care about atmosphere at work and want to hang out once in a while. Incentives are fun, and much cheaper than a raise (which only motivates up to a point). Sure, if your employees don't even make a living wage, incentives can feel like a slap in the face, but to say they are unwanted and unneeded is not true.
Honestly, I wouldn't hate this one. BUT, I make a comfortable middle class wage, like 90% of my coworkers, and enjoy bowling occasionally. I'm also in the military, so I know damn well that I'm not getting an unscheduled raise & the money bookmarked for stupid shit like bowling and family days isn't gunna be given to us if we opt out of the activity....
It's nice to see somebody that has a very different vibe than I do express the same frustrations. I'm used to people that look and sound like you telling me I should fall in line instead of asking for better wages.
I actually enjoy the stupid extra bs at work. Makes me feel like I'm in elemententery school on a holiday. One day at the tire shop by boss brought in a grill and made us all burgers. Idk it was fun. Changed it up a bit.
