Got one for Christmas this year, and so far, it's paid itself off big time. In a short time I sharpened four of our kitchen knives which could barely cut a tomato before. VERY impressed with it so far. Now I want to find any knife that needs sharpening. :)

They tell you to stop half-way because it keeps you from rounding the tip…I will say that this sharpener is a game changer… I have the Ken Onion edition… I like the 3/4” belts…

My mk2 just arrived today, I’ve been worried since I’m a lefty. When I tried it, it’s actually amazing! I guess I’ve been using my right arm to hand sharpen too, that’s why it’s a little easier for me to use. I just need to control it a little bit. I don’t know about other lefties out there, but you can still use it. Maybe just take out the angle guides.

I'm impressed with all the short video content that the various Work Sharp team members have put out, with excellent guidelines/Info. on their products. Have been so itching to buy one of them, and just purchased the Mk. 2 and a pack of belts... as I figured with all I've seen and heard about it, it's a pretty reasonable/affordable model to start with, and who knows... may further down the road step it up to the Ken Onion and attachment. Regardless of what sharpener you buy from Work Sharp, it doesn't take a genius to know you're getting your money's worth!. 👍

If you get a good quality stropping compound you can renew the honing belts just run the grinder and hold the compound block against it for a couple of seconds to coat the belt.

Just got this to fix a knife with a broken tip, it took just a few more pulls with the medium then a few pulls with the fine it’s not perfect but looks great and for 80 bucks works great!

Dammit now i gotta buy the upgrade. Sick of the mk 1 scraping the shit out of all my blades. Edit: the main difference i see seems to be that the angle of the blades is printed on the machine, and most importantly to me is that the edge guides have soft walls. The mk 1 had hard, textured plastic walls and it scratched the crap out of all my blades, so I could never use it on expensive kitchen knives. And it had a dial for the speed, so it was able to work at a full range of speeds. Edit 2: oh yeah, and the reason that you stop pulling while the blade is only halfway across the belt is because if you don’t it will round off the point of your blade.

I have several knives, but I'm not a sharpening expert at all. Will this work for a variety of blades (i.e. scandi, flat, sabre, etc...)? Will they retain their grind after, or will they all become basically the same?

Did they sponsor you? You seem so positive about this product. I got the same for Christmas and I'm still on the fence tbh

How loud is this sharpener? Your video sounds like an electric drill, but it is not loud. I have read comments from another site where somebody said this was loud?

I dont like that the belt only spins one way, means one side you are sharpening against the edge, the other way against the edge

Lot of pocket-knives have 17 degre angles ...so this might not be the sharpener...know Work Sharp has one where you can set it to 17...forget the model...heh...or you could take it down to 155 using a manual....being that most guys don't sharpen regulary (I'd be one....i don't use my knives enough to dull them...but want a aharpener for when I finally do....have a ZT, SOG and BBuck pocket knife i bought from 12 years ago...heh...will never use them to open boxes like "enthusiasts" :)

@@Bertminator Worked with the bass pro guys who sell it, we went over technique to see if I was using it wrong, all the grits, and finally just figured my knife was made of to hard a steel for this to handle. That was the best guess we could come up with.

@@Krazykal japanese 60+ hrc steel? if you are dropping 100-200 on a knife, you should at least have a 10 dollar 90x loupe to look at the edge and see what you are doing.

@@Krazykalwtf are you talking about 😂. There is no steel it can’t handle… I’ve sharpened K390, M4, M2, S35VN as well as 52100 @ Bainit. Maxamet and Magnacut also did sharpen… You just can’t do it properly…

One thing that bothers me is that you pass the knife from one side, the belt goes along with the blade, when you pass from the other side then the belt is going against the blade if it makes sense... you wouldnt do that with any other sharpening method, whether using stone or standard belt.. not sure if it matters or not, if nothing else, its definitely wearing the belt off faster then it should be

You could just use one side, turn the machine around to use the same direction either against or away.
@OathOblivio
@OathOblivio 5 месяцев назад
You don't need to turn it, there are two slots on the sharpener - one for each side. No need to turn the machine or anything
