Surely one of the most useful projects Norm's ever built for the shop is this work table. It's a light weight, yet sturdy, assembly table that is easily raised up on casters to move around the shop as necessary. The mechanism for the caster assembly was borrowed from a nearby scenic shop where mobility is essential. Also with the table, Norm creates a storage cart for his collection of woodworker's clamps. When he needs several clamps, he can easily wheel over his collection to make his choice.
This is an HD version created using an AI program.

I bought a table saw and an assembly table from an older gentleman about 3 years ago and the assembly table is this exact one! I asked the gentleman if it was his idea, he said "nope, The New Yankee Workshop!" He said he built it about 10 years ago! It still works perfect!

Thousands of videos on YT reviewing expensive retractable casters, and Norm shows us how to do it with wood and a couple of hinges. Yankee ingenuity!

I made Norm's clamp rack years ago and have gotten stellar service from it. The only improvement I suggest is using steel wheel casters. The first ones that I used were inexpensive plastic and after moving it a few times fully loaded, the plastic cracked and came right off.

These were literally the first two things I built when I finally got my workshop together. I had ordered the DVD and plans and built the table on a pair of saws horses with a plywood top. I had such a sense of accomplishment of finally realizing I could actually build something and have it come out right. I still have them both and using them till this day! Beautiful memories. Thank you Norm and Russ! You took my shaky confidence in woodworking and made it a huge strength!

I wish my shop had room for a table like that and all those clamps. I'm sequestered to a small corner of the basement and usually wind up assembling on top of the table saw. A bad habit that maybe I can fix with a little reorganization. HMM!

@ 5:55 Norm, I can tell that no one else breaks down those big 4x8 sheets of plywood, better than you and your table saw, with your prototype work table already in your shop! That's a great setup!

For the more popular projects we use an Artificial Intelligence (AI) program to upscale them to HD quality. Results vary, but overall we think it's an improvement.

Don’t want to brag, but I’m better than Norm at carpentry. Better at not ripping wood straight, not having 90° angles, not lining up my screws….and much, much better at buying a lot of bandaids and swearing! 😂

Well, watch part 1 of 'Table Saw 101', and watch as Norm will show you how to adjust your saw, to get the best results, when ripping and cutting solid woods, and sheetgoods, with 0 tear-out(zero-clearance insert!)

15:20 a little over-engineering here. A simple screw-in eyelet would be more than sufficient.

I’m an over builder, so I appreciate his approach to everything.
@Dave6842

I’d be worried that eventually the screw in style would pull out of the wood. Pulling on an angle, against whatever amount of weight is on those jack pieces. It might take a while depending on how big of a screw eye you use, but I think it’s less likely the way he did it.
@rroades
@rroades Год назад
He also always builds a prototype to work out details and the plan. He often refers to learning something during the build, the chop saw station stop block extension is the first to come to mind. He may have already worked this out. Since neither of us know for sure in this case, I’d err on the side of Norm. Personal preference only.
