Just came back to your channel after some time off medical youtube after the pandemic, drawn back in by the videos you did with Mike. Great interview here and very interesting to hear how work with MSF in Sudan and Bangladesh is. Great job Anna, very glad we have people like you doing this. Thank you!

More incredible stories from Dr Kent. I just can't imagine the scale of the suffering you've seen. You must have made such a difference to these people's lives ❤

I appreciated the discussion of mental health as an aid worker. Just because there is training doesn't mean our medical professionals are immune from experiencing trauma and having coping mechanisms in the moment that double down the issue. A line of thinking that could get hours of its own discussion.

What a lovely interview, thank you for sharing Anna Kent's work with us. I'm impressed by the visuals of your interview set-up too. You're both wonderfully lit and the background is pleasing but not distracting. One critique though, when doing an interview, setting the audio to Mono makes it much easier to understand. Especially in situations like this where the stereo audio involves both participants being in odd positions (such as sounding like they are behind us). Luckily, Windows 11 has an option in the Sound Settings to set output audio to mono which allowed me to understand what was going on, but many people don't have that.

HI Anna, I'm really pleased you were able to learn about mental health and how to work through such horrific experiences. It sounds like you suffered from PTSD/complex PTSD, a completely normal response to that kind of situation. We tend to forget that humans are just mammals, with a nervous system, fight/flight/freeze responses, and the neurological response that goes along with that. If someone didn't come out of a situation like that with PTSD then I'd suggest that they had some form of psychopathy. Being in a prolonged fight or flight mode leads to actual changes in the connections in your brain, it's not woo woo or snowflake to have a brain that responds as it evolved to. There is robust science behind mental health and trauma but I think that trauma is so normalised in modern civilization that it's seen as weakness to respond to it. We're continuously made to supress our feelings and remain in situations our instincts are screaming at us to get away from. Ignoring emotional health leads to it manifesting in physical ailments, if you haven't heard of conversion disorder then check it out, I imagine you'll identify with it. Also, I would suggest that what you describe as a hallucination was actually a flashback. You can also have emotional flashbacks where a trigger will cause you to experience the emotional memory of something terrible. You are a really impressive human and I can't wait to read your book. Good luck in your future endeavours and remember, you can't pour from an empty cup ;)

Misogynist ideas about women and sin have much to answer for. If it were not for these beliefs poor Adab would probably not have sought an unsafe abortion and would probably still be alive today. Just an awful situation for these poor women. I hope one day no woman will be put in these dire positions.

I'm sorry, but... I'm not sure I can handle this type of stories. There's a reason a gladly give money to charities, but never read about what they're doing.
