Dr. Liu, thank you so much for posting this. I got a couple of invites for Kaiser FM residency in Cali, so this video is definitely interesting. Would you be willing to take a job at Kaiser once you are done with residency? If so, why? If you are interested in fellowships afterward, would you be willing to train at Kaiser for fellowships? I heard that Kaiser pays pretty well for generalists, but it's pretty competitive to secure a position. Is this true? I would sincerely appreciate your response. Thank you so much!
Hey Soriyou, congrats on those residency invites! I think Kaiser is a fantastic place to do residency. Seems like they really prioritize education and wellness a lot at the Kaiser programs I interviewed at. I'm not planning on fellowships but Kaiser would definitely be a place I would consider if I did - I have a few friends going to Kaiser for heme/onc and other fellowships next year. I do think Kaiser pays very competitively and I actually don't think it's that competitive to get a position - my impression is you do work a little bit harder at Kaiser compared to some other places however in order to get that higher pay!
I literally noticed the same thing with the speed of the EMR. UCSF don't get me wrong was a brilliant school, but it would take FOREVER to note on their system. I feel ya buddy. Hope there's a place for you at Kaiser if you find a fit! -Your friendly Dietitian
How does your practice as a hospitalist at Kaiser compare to other community/academic places? In EM the general thought is that practicing Kaiser EM is a much different experience than a comparable community site in the same region
There are a lot more "older school" types of practice here from some of the older attendings from what I've seen - I think that is the biggest difference! From the wards perspective I feel like things are otherwise pretty similar. Consultant notes are obviously much more informal and MUCH shorter than at an academic center - like literally 6-7 sentences vs entire essays at the academic hospital haha
Haha no unfortunately not so much, but I'm thinking about trying out Stormgate once it comes out which is being made by a lot of the original SC2 developers!
