You’ve seen jail reality shows, but what’s it like to really work behind bars. Meet some corrections deputies and learn more about the job as the Pierce County Jail looks to hire more than 20 people to keep up with demand.
You couldn't pay me enough to do this job even when I was young . I'm retired now and wouldn't want to deal with any of these people . I worked with teenagers and adults for over 30 yrs. in mental health and addictions , but not a house full of these guys . These guys would steal your wallett and help you look for it .
I wouldn't recommend this job for everyone, the pay is good because the risk is high, you better be prepared the day a gang of 10 to 20 dudes try to best your face in assuming backup arrives in time before they best you to death, you must always be alert and cautious
Steve Acost If you mind your Ps and Qs and just do your job respectfully you'll rarely have that happen. Nobody in there *wants* to catch a long sentence so you just have to learn to diffuse hostile situations and remind them where they're at and what their goal is, which is to get out and go home. It's county, not state. It's not like you're dealing with people with nothing to lose.
Don't not go into this field only if you want to be treated by the jail admin. worse than an inmate. they are for the inmates not for staff. high stressful situations, working on pod by yourself with 80 to 10 inmates walking around u. you sit by your desk and listen to grown ass men , crying all day long. please do not pick this job.
