I saw Adam with Norah two times. I was really impressed with his playing which is something I don’t say often. It probably sounds stupid but I can usually tell the difference between a good musician and a good human. Adam is both and so is Norah. Thanks Otis.

I sat next to Norah Jones Grandmother on Norah’s first tour in Nashville. Grandma was telling me they were excited to be getting out of a van an into their new bus. I listened to stories and shared choc covered raisins with Grandma. Norah was wonderful and her Band was raw being pushed by the crowd to fly high. A Night I will never forget , thanks Grandma!

Aww! I was privileged enough to call Adam a friend when he was based in the SF Bay Area back in the early-mid 90s. Listening to this informal chat brings back warm memories of just hanging out, listening to jazz on vinyl, and talking for hours with open hearts. Genuine innovator as a musician and a damn fine human. Thanks Otis!

Adam Levy is as kind and heartfelt in this interview as his playing would indicate. I fully understand why Dave Mathews would want to hang with him. As a fan, the ability to hang with artists after the show is a rare and magical gift. Much heartfelt condolences for the loss of his wife. His stories here made me admire Norah and the members of her band even more.

I believe this is the man I saw with his band at the Livery in Benton Harbor MI and I never forgot him even though it was a long time ago. He was plugged at the time as Norah's guitar player. He is one of the very most amazing guitar players I've ever heard. He played some stuff that sounded Middle Eastern and he was just so great. I've often thought about and remembered that show. Amazing!

I remember meeting Adam & Norah after a great gig in Paris, the first time they were in Europe. It was a small jazz club, and I remember somebody in the band, maybe Adam, maybe Norah, said: it won't get bigger than this. Well, were they wrong. I met the band later in Montreal and things had changed indeed - it was right after the Prince concert Adam mentions. And it's true, it was fun talking with Adam!

Ha I met her at a little bar in Deep Ellum Dallas before she went to New York. In my mind she was already a star then. I was the only one there so we talked. I was very impressed with how mature down to earth and gracious and generous she was. Often performers have somewhat of a facade. These descriptions are so much like I remember it is refreshing.

What a surreal gig to go thru that arch from club to Matthews, Willie to headliner with Norah Jones..She really made Jazz accessible for the average consumer much in the same way Chet Baker or Sergio Mendes did back in the day. I don't know if you knew about her duet album with Billy Armstrong but it's really good covering Everly Brothers post Plant / Kraus first project. I'm thinking that somebody was seeing if they could get that two genres collide thing like Plant/Kraus but it didn't get as big at all. It's still good.

Noah is one of the more celebrated graduates of North Texas State University (now, North Central University) and absolutely took the World by storm with "Don't Know Why." Jesse Harris wrote that and "One Floor Down," and a number of other wonderful songs. NTSU was in Denton, and not Dallas, but that doesn't matter. She is wonderful.
@banjopops67
@banjopops67 9 месяцев назад
Although he does say she's from Dallas, at 8:23 he states "she went to North Texas, in Denton..." Ok he left out the "U", but yeah,Norah went to UNT. I've never heard of "North Central University" in Texas. There is a North Central community college, and if you show me she went there, I'll admit my mistake. You are correct that the university she went to was once called North Texas State, but I'm pretty sure it became UNT in the late '80's, and she wasn't there til the late '90's. Again, correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, UNT claims her as their alumni.

Really great interview and perspective.. there’s something to be said about refreshing your band and music… it has nothing to do with loyalty.. it can be a hard pill for a loyal sideman to take, feeling they’ve dedicated a large portion of their life to supporting someone’s success. But, as an artist (or any kind of musician, really) there comes a time when change is healthy and it may be difficult to see in the moment but a truly dedicated artist or musician must be fed and they need new muses and inspiration. The funnest part of being in a touring act is the ride to something greater than imagined and it may only come along once or twice in a career but, it’s always the most fun… the down side is when it turns into work and becomes less fun and less stimulating.
