With conditions doubtful, Ben and Louise hike for miles into the NH backcountry in search of good snow. The hard work pays off and they're rewarded with huge, open, untracked powder down some remote rock slides. Soon afterwards it snows 18" in the region and Ben is sure one of his favorite chutes is ready to rock. When hiking up, however, he discovers that all there is is pretty much rock. The fresh snow has blown away in the fierce winds. All is not lost, though, and at the top the crew discovers an amazingly narrow pincher chute like nothing they've seen before.
Music in this episode:
Sofa Surfers - "See the Light"
Django Django - "Wor"
Blue States - "Red and Shine"

About The "Working For The Weekend" Series:
Longtime Meathead Films veteran, Ben Leoni, is now living in Portland, Maine, holding down a career and the daily office grind. In between piles of paperwork, he dreams of his weekends skiing in the mountains. Last season he made those dreams a reality.
Ben spent the winter of 2013 skiing the Northeast without the aid of chairlifts. Showcasing legendary backcountry zones as well as hidden gems around New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, "Working For The Weekend" is a groundbreaking new web series and the first of its kind in the region. From deep powder to treacherous ice, Ben and his crew of friends embody the "earn your turns" mantra for the East Coast.

Some years ago, (late 80's, early 90's) I was breaking trail with a friend (on snowshoes) up the Beaver Brook Trail on Moosilauke. We came across backcountry skis tracks that skied down along the brook. On closer inspection I could tell one skier was better than the other. One had to turn off every so often to regroup or else didn't have the experience for the ultra fast decisions to make while literally skiing through the woods. The other track was incredible: I never saw a place where he or she had stopped. I've been a long time skier also, but on ski slopes. These tracks down through woods were something else.

Awesome! Not quite there yet...and when (and if!) I am I'll be an old buzzard, too lazy to skin 4 miles uphill for one run of rock and tree dodging!
