Hey Laura. The foxglove colour is dreamy!!! I can never imagine planting elephant ears (taro) coz for us they grow everywhere, like literally! Wherever there's constant water, these would thrive. @@ajgem5467 hi! Well honestly I've never planted them for they are equivalent to weeds for us.But they love water. Any place where they get a ton of water or generous soak, they will grow and thrive. Here they grow on the roadside with full sunlight (we get a max high of 36°-38°), and because we get such rains almost throughout the year, they sprout everywhere.

I think you will love your elephant ears! They waggle so gently in the breeze & are very easy "children" All they want is that moisture--they won't mind the heat! Pile them with mulch & they should make it through the winter. They may look like a rotten mess in the spring, but don't dig them!! I've made that mistake so often! They sprout & feed from that. And they are BEASTS as you say of some plants. I'm sure they will richly reward you in short order being out of their cans.

Thanks for sharing this video. Your channel is one of my favorites. I have one request. I understand you primarily provide garden information, and I can't express how helpful you have been for my own garden journey. My youngest grandson loves your channel and he also loves chickens, so I hope you can show the chickens next time. Thanks so much. Have a blessed day.

Hi: Just a quick note...be careful with the elephant leaves in contact with your face or eyes...they contain oxalic acid and can be very irritating if the juice gets into your eyes...the Alocasia family is like that...ditto caladiums, although less so...love the new plantings...fountain is wonderful...thanks for a great video!!

If ingested they are also poisonous

Does it make a difference that these aren't alocasia? They're colocasia.

Help! I got some foxglove for the first time this year! A couple of days after planting they began to wilt horribly. We have been in the low to mid 90’s for several weeks with high humidity. I have been giving them water twice daily (and a good amount). They get morning sun until noon. The poor things are STILL wilting 2 weeks later. Is it possible that I put too much starter fertilizer in with them? Am I watering too much? Too much sun? How do I save them?

Mely Terry mealy bugs ? In case you don’t know , Mealy bugs are cottony like bugs that appear to be spots until closer inspection. They are often found in the leaf joints and undersides of leaves. Insecticidal soap, or a Dawn/water combo mixed with alcohol will usually kill them. You have to be persistent. They spread easily and may require several rounds of treatment. I had a bad case a few years back. Some of the plants were so overwhelmed I threw them away. My other guess is powdery Mildew. There are plenty of DIY treatments on RU-vid for it. Good luck 🍀.

Be careful when you’re plugging anything into electric cords it looked like your fingers were very close to the prongs, I did that once to an overhead socket to get a better grip on the plug to unplug it I was electrocuted so bad I couldn’t let go until I blacked out and fell down and finally broke loose.

I'm fighting Wisteria & Ivy from the property next door, will try the vine killer. I can't eradicate it all but trying to keep it from eating MY property too. PLEASE folks, never plant Ivy in the ground & use only native American Wisteria! Edit: update on the new property plantings?

So Beautiful! You are going to love the elephant ears 😊. We started growing them a few years ago and had such success! The first year we were amazed at how large the leaves get & we made a concrete birdbath out of it 😂. I’ve never grown foxgloves before but they are on my wishlist for next year now! Always so inspired by you! Thank you, Laura!

I know you're "teasing" Laura. I think she doesn't need to in this case because her soil is so rich those roots will want to reach out. Plus, they're considered annuals (bulbs can be dug up in fall).

I have planted elephant ears and they get very big and shady and they spread, so if you don't want anything to die, don't plant it too close. I've had mine about 3 years now and more produce every year. They are very hearty in VA. I always heard you have to dig them up and plant them in pots and store them. I just cut them level to the ground in the late fall and cover them with a little dirt and they come right back in late May - mid June. They grow fast, so satisfying! Mine grow in a corner of the house in filtered light and shade and standing water when it rains. It that helps anyone. I've always wanted to plant petunias like that but I always buy them in the hanging baskets and just leave them there. That bed is so pretty. I love the colors together. I'm determine I'm going to start a new bed i've wanted for 6 years now.

Laura, Your foxglove peach and light lavender looks beautiful. I'm an 'old' interior designer which thinks I should have been a garden designer! I just don't have the energy it takes anymore. The shed looks good with nothing on the right side it cause's the eye to look at the flowers more. The simplicity of the fountain is also perfect. Then the blueish /lavender petunia's with the foxgloves is perfect. They compliment each other! Just Lovely my friend! My favorite so far !!

I appreciate that you show the problems that you deal with, and how you solve them. I also liked that you told us how long it took you to do the project. I am surprised you have so much luck planting in the heat. I live in AZ, and find that my plants even struggle when I plant in the Spring and they have to deal with our 100 degree temps with in a few months. I can see a significant difference when I plant in the Fall, and the plants have time to get established before the heat hits... I wouldn't dare planting in our summers. Do you think you have so much success planting in the heat because of the amendments you use? Possibly they help the plants get established faster to deal with the heat?

To straighten out a leaning cement piece. Dig a hole, as deep as a cinder block plus 4 inches. Put sand of 4 inches into hole and cinderblock over it. Level cinder block. Can put stepping stone over that. Put cement peace over it.Mine have been straight for years. No more straightening it up each spring. Works great.
