It's interesting that many techs don't talk about the PCV especially in high mileage vehicles as it does have a major impact on engine performance from oil consumption to air/fuel mixture.

@@gz617 The valve you see moving can get enough sludge buildup that it can stick halfway through it's travel. If/When this happens the full vacuum from the engine intake manifold(Roughly 20-23inHG Inches of Mercury at Idle) can be strong enough to pull oil out of the engine crankcase. It also works as a Check Valve in that if the engine Backfires from a Lean mixture it takes it's seat to the right and Checks(Blocks) the pressure protecting the Crankcase. This high pressure could blow lip seals and gaskets out on the engine. It can stick in the closed position blocking vacuum to the Crankcase and you'll see your oil turn Black too soon. You might also develop oil leaks. It's very important for the vacuum to pull Blowby gasses from the crankcase. If an engine burns oil past the rings check the dipstick tube with the Manaometer. Some engine brands dropped this system to near 0 vacuum for EPA specs but it no longer did a good job pulling these damaging gases from the crankcase overheating the ring pack causing them to carbon up. If you pull the Dipstick and hook a Manometer(Sensitive low pressure/vacuum gauge) to tube you should see about 1-2inHG at Idle. HIH

You could label this much more clearly...as the picture is perfect but the labelling is poor. Consider: left side of slide says "To engine"...sometimes labelled "inlet manifold" in later portions of the vid....and right side is labelled, "inlet" side.....so the word "inlet" is on both sides. Also this....the left side is labelled ""outlet" but's actually connected to the air-inlet of the engine. Confusing. Would be much better to simply call the left side "engine air inlet"....and the right side "engine-crankcase" or "screwed-connection to engine"..... just saying.... as this is a good diagram but the wording can be confusing

Hundred percent agree I was watching this in my head was starting to hurt. I was thinking of myself you’re using two different words that mean the same thing on both sides.

It’s wrong normally pcv valve start open and it closes as soon the suction grow from the inlet manifold

I was wondering the same thing. Just changed the pcv on my 2.4 GDI that is consuming oil. Exterior of valve covered in oil heading into the intake manifold. I blew through the valve (new one) and it doesn’t seem like the spring tension is strong enough to close the plunger. But once installed, is there some kind of back pressure from the manifold that forces the plunger closed when gases aren’t escaping? Thanks!
