A Zeus and Hera- Feather Plucking Update: CBD Oil
🙉 Ah, Pluck It!
Sorry about the pun, how could I resist?
Besides, I adopted pluckers and -- they pluck! Who would have thought?
Ok, yes, I knew 2 things when I adopted Zeus and Hera: 1) Once an African Grey has plucked for a month, it is extremely difficult to get them to stop. 2) Once an African Grey has plucked enough for feathers to come in as red feathers, as in Hera's case, they are NOT red factors. They have sustained enough damage to their follicles that the color alters. Unfortunately, I was correct, Hera had plucked long enough to have damaged her follicles, my distinguished avian veterinarian agreed.
🌴Nevertheless, I Try!
Am I a glutton for punishment? I did have to consider this possibility... I'm asking the impossible, or close to it. But, life is short and it stirs my soul to think that I am helping heal my parrots. What if I could help Zeus and Hera stop plucking? How amazing would that be? I'd feel like a million feathers!
And, as long as I am a parrot-person, as long as I'm passionate about parrots and I'm writing about them, I'm going to work towards helping them out.
So, I'm Trying CBD Oil 🕶️
We've created Tink's CBD Oil because our Green-cheeked Conure had seizures (caused by nerve damage, which is why she was given to us). You can read about Tink and how the CBD oil has helped minimize her seizures here...
Tony Silva Has Found That CBD Oil Is Helping His Hyacinth
This is a photo of my mentor, Tony Silva, my daughter Xelha and I. Tony is using Tink's CBD on his Hyacinth Macaw, who he rescued and who had plucked his feathers. Now, if I was as good as Tony then I'd probably have more parrot magic ✨ and my African Greys wouldn't be plucking - his Hyacinty is doing well! He looks pretty close to 'normal!'

I think that they need a bigger cage..... due to the fact that there is two parrots in one cage..... they need twice the space...... you could join a second cage onto the existing one..... that way they have more space..... but they still have the comfort of the old cage..... remember..... you're just extending the size of the cage..... just remove one side of each cage..... put one side on the back..... and one side in front..... and all you would have to do is figure out how to close off the top and bottom.....in other words..... you have the original cage with the removed sides in between the old cage and the new cage...... this will give them lots more space..... and I believe it will reduce their stress..... I have a Blue font Amazon..... and his legs were bare when I got him......he was severely abused.....feed them a good pellet diet..... you can also make them some snack logs with a honey base...... I just read that honey helps with stress..... you could probably add some cbd oil to the recipe.....if you'd like my recipe..... and how to make it..... just contact me through my email..... and I could probably answer a lot of questions..... I've learned Soo much..... my email is bernadinew48@gmail.com..... good luck...... I recovered a traumatized parrot..... and I believe I have some great advice...... for many parrot questions.....

Hi Bernadine, these guys had been in a larger, 6' cage. I adopted them plucked and they haven't stopped. I'm looking at putting them outside in the large cage... Thanks, I'll email you for your recipe. Would love to see pics of your Amazon!

How do your birds act on cbd. My vet prescribed cbd to my cockatiel and when i give it to her she acts as if she cant keep her head up, along side with another medication that causes sedation. Want to know if anyone else birds acts this way.

You can’t tell which is causing the drowsiness if it’s 2 things that can. A small amount of CBD won’t cause that, too much will.

Hi! I have a pigeon with a lot of pain in its feet, the vet said that it was like arthritis and another vet said that he has Bumble foot, I really don't know what it has, but it is suffering, do you know that I can get that product for a pigeon? Thanks

CBD works on parrots, people and dogs- that I know of. I expect it would work for your pigeon too. You can get a bottle at ParrotBliss.com - follow the directions for weight to see how much to give- and please LMK how it goes. I want to hear. 😊

Read my blog on this, here's one blog: parrotbliss.com/why-do-african-grey-parrots-pluck-their-feathers/ What has worked best for me is allowing my AGs to be outside and a good diet. I use my Tink's Parrot Relief, CBD oil as a part of their diet. It's on the site too.

Yes, it puts them more in balance. They are doing better, but I also put them outside for a couple hours daily. Once they've had the habit for over a month, it's almost impossible to break. The fact that they're improving I think is just amazing! I'll see if they keep improving-

Seizure fits are a sign of calcium deficiency with a bird.

Sounds like the birds are calcium deficient. Secondly maybe they are feather plucking because they need Uv light to replace the natural sunlight they get in the wild. When these birds sunbathe they preen their feathers the mucus then accumulates vitamin D which they reabsorb while preening. While feather plucking can be caused by stress, trauma and not having sufficient distractions. It coukd be a sign of not getting enough calcium and UV light.
@ParrotBliss
@ParrotBliss 3 года назад
You sound very knowledgeable, Frank- I appreciate your comments. I adopted them this way so I have no way of knowing whether or not they received enough sunlight or calcium. During the day I put them outside in a day cage and they pluck less. I do everything I can for them. Fresh vegetables, pellets and usually nuts - not seeds - to fulfill their fat requirements. They're also outside getting fresh air and sunshine everyday. However it's hard to correct damage. Thank you for posting. How do you know so much about parrots? What kind have you worked with?
