This is stressful

Thank you for your video. I was just approved for disability. I am 56 years old. If you look at my employment history, I had long-term jobs up until about five years ago. I was a store manager for Sears before they closed. In 2018, I was diagnosed with cancer, which is when I first applied for disability. Even though I survived cancer when it was time to go back to work, the pandemic hit, and all retail nonessential stores were closed for six weeks, and when they re-opened, they have eliminated it a lot of positions my point is I had 10 jobs in 2021. The reason I had so many is that I was unable to make it to the 90 day probationary. Period. I was talking to my attorney the other day about this, not knowing that there was such a thing as unsuccessful job attempt. I brought this up in the hearing that I was not able to keep a job for very long. There was a new rule introduced last year. Anyone at the age of 55 is considered an advanced age. Which means for me none of my skills, training or experience was transferable to another job. They understood that it is too hard for a disabled person to go back to school and re-learned a new career. Last year I had three jobs. The third job I started in July, and because my boss knew of my situation and liked my work ethic he provided me with a support person. Nobody else had two people working together. Typically everyone works on their own. I was worried that my employment would affect my disability outcome. Believe me I was in so much pain every day it took me 10 minutes to get out of my car when I got home I slept my entire three days off. I had to do this because of many bills I was finally caught up in November, and then I lost my vision. I went through a series of eye surgery’s during November and December. Most of my vision is restored. I cannot read the fine print even with correction glasses. Tomorrow I am supposed to return back to work. I got my letter of approval a week ago and a lot of the things that I am not supposed to do are a part of my current job description. I don’t know what to do. If I should return back to work as normal I have already told my supervisor. Apparently there is another new role a nine month trial. Where are you can make as much money as you want but then you have to drop down to the 2023 below the limit of 1470 . After the nine month trial. You have to stay under that top limit it changes yearly right now it’s 1470 if I were to continue in my current job I figure only do 18 hours a week. Unfortunately they do not have any light duty jobs, which is what I am restricted to.

Wow, you have been through alot and my heart goes out to you. I can understand your predicament with the restrictions now that you are on ssdi (congrats By the way). I would suggest looking into working remotely. I know that is not for everyone but also I encourage you to stick to the SGA requirements as much as possible even if that means looking for a job that fits that criteria

Everyone including my attorney says to lay low. My cousin (diagnosed with MS @ age 38. Now 52), suggests taking the full year off. He got dinged in 2016 working part time (PT) because he went over the limit, $1080 @ that time unknowingly. I super good with numbers, math. Before cell phones, I could look at a phone number once and memorize it forever. I still today know phone numbers at age 6. Anyway a new question arose. My mother is 92. She says she is ready to go be with God (I don’t blame her). She said the 3 of us would get a small inheritance. What does social security do? I want my mother to live to 100 selfishly. I don’t believe in money I have not earned. I worked 3 jobs to get through college. Of course I’m outraged that people expect Biden to wipe out their selfish chosen debt. (We have raised crybabies & snowflakes). Anyway I would put any inheritance into retirement. At rate my heath is going. I can’t be like those poor little aged ladies collecting shopping carts in the rain and dark where robberies have happened. Also my job is way to physical, I just re-injured my back. Don’t want to loose my personal or vacation time. Thank you for encouragement!

You explain things so simple, truly appreciate your time and help. UWA,is a term I have never heard of but it breakdown why my previous job was stressful for me and my health. I wasn't being accommodated and I didn't know my rights. If a person doesn't get money from SSA every month, could thwy still be considered disabled?and have a job coach? AMEN

Great advice! However, I find it funny how SSA and you talk like working while you wait is an option.

@@TheDisabilityDigest July 14, 2021 onset date. On July 2022, I received a settlement from a police officer misconduct In federal lawsuit. I spent it paying credit card and loans. I was under the limit in December 2022. January 31, 2023 my hearing and on February 15, 2023 I was given a fully favorable decision. Now March 1, 2023 I have a resource phone interview. I’m hoping they will just take back pay. Stress time over this.

If I had a settlement with work comp back in 2020 and I have proof of spend down of the amount… would be this considered at SSI?

@@rosachavez6394I had my hearing in February 2022. Was giving big settlement in March 2022. I informed my attorney, was told it would effect his pay. I spent it down over the course March to November when I was approved. SSI was informed with all the paperwork and bank statements. They deducted what I was over from November and I still got some back pay. After spending down and back pay it equals about the same. New car was the biggest spend down. I hope this helps.

@@TheDisabilityDigest Thank you kindly. I'm awaiting, even with all the SSA and IRS delays and Backlog for an SSI decision. Want to try working but am on Epileptic meds.
