Just a quick video about how I use Agfa Aviphot Pan 200 Aerial Film. This film comes a different sizes on sites like eBay. Mainly 70mm and this 9 7/16 inch. It’s a great way to save money on film photography and bring formats that no longer exist back from the dead. Using d76 to get an ISO 100 image and Rodinal to get a ISO 200 image.
D76 1+1 for 15 min at 20 C ISO80-100
Pyrocat HD 1+1+50 for 10 min at 20 C ISO 80-100
Rodinal 1+25 for 8 min at 20 C ISO 200
R72 filter ISO 2-6 same times for all three developing.
Water stop bath
TF-4 1+4 Fixer

Hey, just FYI, the black plastic bag that Aviphot comes in is easily torn by the metal spool in there, so always handle it in complete darkness even if it’s in the bag. Good news is, it’s on a daylight spool so any light that does find it won’t get past the first 2-3 layers of film, maybe the first 5 feet or so.

@@mcb187 good to know. My case was cracked but the bag was still intact.

One thing that may be of interest when "off label" use of Aviphot, is that it is coated on a thinner base stock than most other films, and has a slight curl to it. This is less of an issue when using it in roll cameras than when cutting for sheet holders. The sheet films are "generally" coated on a thicker base stock than roll films, at 0.180mm/7-mil for sheet films vs 0.125mm/5-mil for 135 or 0.110mm/4-mil for 120/220. Aviphot has a base thickness of 0.10 mm/4-mil (but there are also two thinner versions at 0.06 mm/2.5mil). Again not that much of a thing with roll use, but I have heard of some folk have (minor?) loading (and "critical focus") issues when it is cut down for use in sheet holders... Just checked my two rolls and they have a use by (expire) dates of 2017 and 2018, and I did not get them from the Indian seller(s?) a few years ago, also off ebay.

It is very thin and does have a curl to it. When using it in my cut sheet holders it does want to pop out. I have decided to just use it in roll form. Thank you for the information.

Great video, some information on removing base fog, for developers like Rodinal you can add benzotriazole into the diluted developer itself to decrease base fog on the film, it works wonders. I believe D76 already has benzotriazole in it so thats why it does a decent job at removing it and pyro developers stain the emulsion so fogging doesnt really matter with them.

Thank you for the information. I really enjoyed using Pyrocat and 510 Pyro. I try to use them as much as I can. Unfortunately the first few times I tried I couldn’t get an image without stand development for over and hour. Increasing the concentration really helped.

@@Socialmocracy Yeah pyro developers are a learning process. They give excellent results though and I certainly love 510 Pyros grainless results on iso 100 films. The massive dev chart helps a bunch though with developing times if you havent had a look at it just yet

Hey! I want to apologize for my wrong statement regarding the rodinal... Densitometric testing gave me the optimal ISO of 12 for this film, for the 8 min 1+25 Rodinal development, my negatives where thereby heavily underexposed, but still printable and also scanable... Greetings Maurizio

@@codysergeant1486 Thank you for the update. The film is very grainy when using the r72 filter. I also saw a very dense negative when using it. It seems fine and I kinda like the grain that comes with the IR r72 filter. The same roll shooting normally with no filter shows different grain. Did you find this as well?

@@Socialmocracy I will do more test but as far as I know, that is not the case. I, however did some 40x50 cm enlargement of my negative and could observe some mottling!

@@codysergeant1486 I did see this as well but only when using the rodinal. D76, pyrocat, and 510 pyro did not have that happen.

Great video! I noticed the fox figure in the background and it's fantastic. Did you 3D print it yourself? If so, could you let me know where I can find the file for it?

@@nightrow9589 My wife found it at the home store about 10 year ago. She knows I like foxes.
