Hi guys! Another type of video for you today, just showing a behind the scenes of my workshop, today were upgrading my Bachmann k4! As you know from my previous video, the engine was still in its factory form, unmodified. Hope you enjoy!
im just starting to watch your video's great job .. id like to see more people put the speaker in the engine where the noise is supposed to be coming from .i did one of my brass one an sounds great ... great talent
thanks! I would like to see that too, but unfortunately its just not going to ideal. See in larger scales you can get away with that since the engines are often already more than heavy enough. Issue is in HO, the engines dont have that much space, and so the space that IS there is best suited for weight, much more than space for a decoder and speaker. Afterall, pulling power is much more important than sound, atleast imo. That goes the same with smoke generators, imo. My MTH K4s (without traction tires) can only pull 2 P70 coaches... I would much rather have it not smoke and be able to pull 8 cars. I might make that modification some day. Cheers!
Well I do agree with you , but I did install a decoder in a PRR 282 brass United pacific speaker an decoder both fit in there .. it’s tight but it will with more room with the bigger bel pair fire box on the prr engines Keep up the good videos !!
That's cool! I guess if you're satisfied with its pulling abilities but also have enough space for a decoder and speaker, then by all means the sound is more realistic if installed in the engine. In this case though, I rarely find myself with excess unused space inside my engines. Cheers!
thanks! I highly recommend every modeler to learn to restore engines. It is so sad seeing thousands of "not running engines" on Ebay when the only thing wrong is dirty contacts, a loose wire, or something basic. Opening up engines may seem daunting at first. That's why I recommend starting off learning to open up and lub/clean with a cheapo used engine from any train show or ebay, then moving on to more expensive engines. If you ever get stuck there are hundreds of tutorials/diagrams online, as well as forums you can ask for help(ive done this myself many times!)
@@trainman440 Agreed. However, not everyone is skilled in this area. I actually worked as a technician for decades. I find these dinky thing exceptionally difficult. I accept the challenge. Haha. Not everyone has such immediate access to eBay and all that is required. Nonetheless, moving forward here. Got my first loco in years. Oh joy!
@@trainman440 The MTH H10. I've got about nine cars now but no power yet So it's all just sitting on display for now. Still a tremendous joy just to look at after all these years with no toys. Finally!
