Glad to see you're not a purist when it comes to materials for drawer dividers. I recently salvaged a discarded metal tool chest, and after I lugged it home and did some clean-up, I remembered this video. A quick trip to a local vinyl fence supplier netted me a big pile of scrap pieces; now all I need is a bit of glue and a lot of elbow grease! Thanks for sharing your expertise.
@NextLevelCarpentry
@NextLevelCarpentry Год назад
Very cool Carl! Glad to hear you were able to find scrap from a fence company because sadly this whole concept can be cost prohibitive if the only option is to buy new materials and then just cut it up into small pieces. Since you got the material for free you should be able to justify getting some of that special vinyl adhesive because although it's a little bit pricey it really does do a great job. Good luck with your project and make sure to check out other videos on Next Level carpentry where I make portable organizers Etc out of that same material... Best, Matt

@@NextLevelCarpentry Matt: Funny thing is, the guy at the fence supply place who actually gave me the scraps told me that someone else had recently been there with the same idea... Another Next Level Carpentry viewer? Per your suggestion: Since the FREE tool chest is probably worth a few hundred bucks, and the vinyl scraps were also FREE, I guess I can afford to spend lavishly on a bit of vinyl glue!

A standard red stripe straw is better than a popsicle stick. Cut a large staw into 2-3 sections. It contours into corners and the unneeded glue is pushed into the straw. This method was very popular with furniture construction where squeeze out was common.

First of all I love your idea on organizing. We sold our house two years ago to move and help my in-laws. We jammed and crammed my shop into a 20 container ( it is like those commercials where if you open the door you will get killed by the stuff jammed inside) . We figured on a couple years of helping them and traveling/house hunting.WRONG the wife got breast cancer/ I was hospitalized 4 times with G I. Problems. She is now cancer free and I have managed to stay out of the hospital (I am managing my diet, carnivore. ) . The problem is now that we are both feeling better my father/brother -in-law want me to fix all the stuff they tear up on the farm. I only brought a small 5 drawer cart with us . Now it’s very aggravating to need something (tool? And know that you have it , it’s just 500 miles away in a container at your friends house. Iwe now realize that we need a smaller rv( that I want to build to suit our needs and I need tools that I DO /DONT have😂. My problem is that I LOVE tools but I also want to travel. It’s funny how this was not even a consideration when we were both sick🤔 I do believe in organized tools /shop. So I do think I need a bigger box , just not to big . I have 12’ of boxes full of tools , but need more where I am. What is the name of those boxes and would you recommend them. A think I could get away with a 56” box for now and just add it in when we find that perfect piece of land to build the shop&house. Thanks don’t know how I haven’t seen your channel before, new sub.

This is a really cool idea for organizing a toolbox. My box is a mess. I considered foam, but I have too many tools in the box as it is and while foam is sharp looking, 2/3 of my tools would be without a home, this system just might work to organize the box without compromising on storage capacity!
