Workshop: John Lott I Double Bass Ep 1, Introduction and Scroll Graft 

Over the next few videos, we’ll be going behind the scenes in the workshop to see what goes on in a restoration job. The double bass in question is a beautiful instrument by John Lott I, and we’ll be carrying out a lot of work, including fitting a new neck with a scroll graft and tidying up some of the internal details.
In this first video, George takes us through the instrument and explains why this work needs to be carried out and what the effect on sound will be. We then go into the workshop for the first steps of the scroll graft.
