Having a running Panzer I Ausf. B is almost as rare as a running Tiger! Aus Armour is such an amazing collection of people hell bent on restoring vehicles with true Aussie ingenuity instead of being hung up by not having the exact period correct nuts and bolts... Don't get me wrong because I love all those "matching numbers" exhibits out there, but these things are rarer than hens teeth and it's always better to display history than keeping the rusty mangled parts in a box waiting for the missing parts that don't exists?! The only sad thing is that you're so far from me... But if by chance a miracle does happen so I can travel once in my life to Australia like I've always dreamt of, you're the first place I'm visiting!!! Huge thanks for restoring and saving all this history for the next generations before it's too late. Greetings from Sweden

I'm actually a bit stunned by the sight of a Pz 1 Ausf B running around in Australia of all places! Even after all these years you blokes never ceasev to amaze me with the miracles you do in restoring these vehicles., And I actually saw the engine deck of this particular vehicle sitting on a pallet in the workshop on my first ever visit there back in 2018. I recognised it for what it was never thinking it would ever be part of an actual running Panzer 1, and now here it is which is just so very appropriate and just simply fantastic! Absolutely brilliant work guys 👏

The reason the MG's were advanced from one another was actually because of the MG feed/ejection system. And definitely not because of space saving considerations. To explain; internal and to some extent external MG systems on German tanks dumped both the empties and non disintegrating link belts into a canvas pouch located to the right of the feed/fire mechanism. In order to save both the belt for later reloading and spent brass from rolling around inside the vehicle, canvas pouches were attached to the ejection side of the MG itself. They were rather bulky arrangements and for it to work on the Pz.Kpfw I the gun had to be advanced of the other. In some instances, a box magazine was used instead of a belt of bullets and that advanced position allowed for box magazines to be used also.
