That’s crazy about spark plug, did not know that. Also did not know your mower blades were like that. I noticed how the old blades were at a bit of an angle then you put on the new ones. They obviously used that mower to cut more than grass. Great vid.

The spark wants to jump to the ground which is the head/engine block.. When the lead is next to the spark plug tip the the quickest way to ground is to jump the tip and then the gap unless the jump is to far... If you have the lead off to the side of the head and next to the head then the spark will jump straight to the head or block if you turn over the engine fast enough... I just wedge it to the side of the head which would mean it ignoring a huge ground right next to it and instead jumping over and inch or two to then jump the gap until it hits ground.. I can't see that happening.. But don't let it sit next to the spark plug tip if you do anything that risks turning over the engine...

Wow the plastic top looked like a Q45 but with the filter off, just a 450 with its two air vane governor springs. The Q45 is the single spring type with push handle speed control. The 450 is good but Q45 is better.

Brenton, I think at 5:15 it would be helpful to explicitly state whether all the blade carrier on all these B&S motors is secured by a right-hand thread (ie conventional) nut, or if some are left-hand thread. I assume they are all right hand, judging by what appears to be the cutting face on the blades. I am trying to get the blade carrier off to get the engine out from my Victa Corvette 550. The motor is A1 but the Victa frame has rusted out. It has never been off, I suspect (the wife used to take it in to the local mower shop for a service, and I think he changed the blades with the carrier still in place. Anyway, I can't shift that nut. Before I started, I took a drill with mtal brush to it to get ride of surface rust. Then I heated it up with a butane torch and rapidly cooled it with water. Repeated a couple of times). Then I soaked it in a 50-50 Acetone & Auto transmission fluid mix (usually good for loosening rusted together parts). I have hammered the 9/16 ring spanner on to the nut, then put a two foot long metal tube over the spanner to get lots of leverage. All I have achieved is to round the ends off the nut. The bugger will not move. Tell me, what technique do you use to move seemingly immovable blade-carrier nuts ?

A spark will jump a long way but it won't jump an inch... Disconnecting the lead means not having it tough the plug.. So have it bent to the side of the head etc.. It will jump to easiest earth and the head /block is far easier then going to the tip of the spark plug and then through the gap.. Sticking it away from any earth other than it being close to the spark plug tip is a risk..

Regarding Australian Made blades "Supercheap Auto" sell TuffCut branded blades that are marked as Australian made as well... I don't think their would be a lot of blade makers in Australia so maybe it's the same company using another business name for sales from larger automotive stores.. They have a large selection of TuffCut parts but not all were made in Australia as some things under the brand were NGK Lawn Mower spark plugs just sold in a different container for a similar price as an NGK boxed one..

@davidmarks509
@davidmarks509 2 года назад
@@theaussielawn I couldn't pull start my mower so I checked the oil which was not easy as someone had really had it tight on, but I was able to remove that. I then noticed the oil was on the bottom marker and to be that seems really low. So Thank to your advice I shall send my wife off to buntings to buy the right oil and a funnel. I can now pull the pull start, and it does turn, but I am sure it will do better with more oil in it. Maybe pull it slowly to move the oil around, but not start it, I have the spark plug d/c but these mowers can start very easily. Take care.

Great video thank you. I've just changed the blades on my 2019 victa power mulcher. Quad blade set-up on the disc. Bolts tightened correctly but there's some slight movement when I push/pull each blade side to side. One particular blade actually moves completely inward when the lawn mower is turned off after use, it appears to swing straight back out when started up again but can't be sure. I've read some of the victa blades are designed to swing out of the way if it hits something and then the velocity of the disc flings the blade straight back outwards when the objects cleared. So basically is my situation normal or are my blade defective (original victa brand) or could the disc be defective where the blades mount? Sorry for my long story😂 Thanks mate
@theaussielawn
@theaussielawn 3 года назад
Just check that your blade bolts have slotted correctly into the blade disc there should be some ability for the blades to move outta the way as you mentioned. Hence being called “swing back blades”

@zakofrx
@zakofrx 3 года назад
The aircleaner depends on the model or choice by the Mower maker (the same engine can have different air filters..). With the old side vales like the one in the video I have seen oiled foam, folded paper (like modern cars) and cylinder ones that mount at the top of a snorkel.. Unfortunately they no longer sell the side valve engines and the OHV engines have a large plastic box on the carby which makes it look like they are going with a new shape... Probably a folded paper one as they work well, don't involve mess and they make money every time you buy a new filter... You can make a folded paper filter last longer on your car and mower by blowing compressed air through it from the back so as to dislodge some of the dirt and dust..(not the front) Briggs and Stratton has a problem with heaps of Chinese copied parts being sold so it makes sense for them to switch to a new design still under patent that they can make money on.. They are a great engines made in the USA in poor areas that need manufacturing jobs that don't involve rich people moving in and jacking up the costs to live in their towns. (they make them in many poor areas and states) Unfortunatly Briggs and Stratton went bankrupt due to the Virus and now have new owners so hopfully as long as they make money through their parts sales and engine sales they will keep making them in the US and not try and make them again in China which they did for a while in the past. I have only heard bad things about the Chinese copied motors now put on many mowers... Stick with a Bridge and Stratton(they made a Engines in the US to fight WW2), Hondas(which I believe are made in Italy) or Kawasaki... Probably many other good brands but I don't know much about them (Suzuki and Subaru lawn mower engines but I don't know were they are made or how good they are)
@dominoespizza1756
@dominoespizza1756 3 года назад
The new briggs and strattons have foam filters on the lower end engines with the primer and anything with the auto choke has a paper filter. Also the Chinese Honda engines are the same as the hondas, they come out of the same factory in China. The only time you will have problems is if you use bad fuel or leave the fuel tap off and let it sit for months, much better than the cheap engines Briggs and stratton has been making
