I did a quick check after the heater was plugged in for 45 minutes. The temp is 47F outside, but inside the nest box it's 64F. So far so good. I'll keep an eye on it to see how the temp is doing for a few days (it's way too early for them to nest yet, so this is my test period to see how it goes and know it'll be ready for them when they do nest). I'll remove this contraption later in spring when it gets warmer and the danger of freezing temps is gone. The whole point of this is to try to prevent what happened last spring, which is a batch of dead babies (it got too cold and they froze to death in the nest). 😞
