YES, this is legal. :)
14 year old me would NOT have pulled this off!
I’d have LOVED to get the chance to enter #GeneralAviation at such a young age,
but I have to admit, I wasn’t ready to avail myself of the chance; even if it was presented to me, I'd probably have screwed it up.
Having met Adam and seeing how hard he works, and the level of responsibility he exudes, it is clear “Luck” does not apply to his situation.
As I say in the video, “Luck” = Preparation AND Opportunity being in alignment
- You need BOTH to be successful at any endeavour.

Aaron contributed the following when I asked him for a “blurb” to add to this video description:
“This one is NOT about me.
The fact I’m coaching heavy-hitters from Canada is more relevant than my personal resume.
Regardless, here are some resume highlights:
- 3x US National Aerobatic Champion (1x Intermediate, 2x Advanced)
- 2x Member of the US Aerobatic Team
- CIVA Gold Medalist (world championships, 2018)
- Coach for Canadian Advanced Aerobatic Team
Regarding the grassroots aspect of this episode - IMHO, Primary/Sportsman are the most important categories.
At our contests, people always want to ‘see the show’ when Unlimited launches,
but it’s far more important for the up-and-comers to get their shot in the ring.
Even recreational competitors; that’s where the heart of our sport exists.”
If you’d like to look into receiving some awesome coaching (at ANY level), reach out to Aaron!

FLIGHT CHOPS DISCLAIMER:
I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial.
I have had my PPL for over 20 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve....
Having GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable.
I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share.
Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.

That is awesome. The fact that you, with only a student pilot cert have the confidence and the ability to go out and perform to this level. Most Private Pilots I know wouldn’t even attempt this but it’s awesome that you do. Keep up the great work Adam cause your going places, literally and figuratively.

It amazes me how naturally talented kids are. The younger they start, the easier it becomes. My 4 year is crazy good at driving trucks with trailers (he drives sim on the PC), including reversing with trailers, which most adults struggle with. He even drives my Tesla S Plaid on gravel roads (on my lap) and its crazy how good he is at it. Give kids the means and tools and the majority of them will do very good. My kid is luck, this kid is lucky. Skill usually comes naturally to them.

everyone with an interest in learning to fly should go out to their local airport and take a discovery flight. i wish flight schools were a bit more enthusiastic about 'walk ins' asking about flight lessons. often the price and time commitment is talked about too soon. CFI should just take anyone with a serious interest, up flying that day. you can immediately see if they love it and many sign up for lessons. airports and flight schools need to be more encouraging ....we need NEW pilots.

This amazing and such accomplishment for a young fella! Dad used to own a couple planes when i was a kid but he got out of it after someone close had an accident now 40 years later he still regrets selling them and wish now in life he hadn't because i would love to go for my license but i was fortunate enough in my teens that his friends had flost planes so i had the opportunity for a number of years to be able to take the controls on the northern flights once up in the air. Definitely miss those opportunities. Anyone interested in aviation i highly suggest if can afford it to get your license and enjoy the sky!

‘Luck’… When I was 14, I considered myself lucky to have a $200 motorcycle and a $500 computer, that I worked and saved up for myself. Definitely does not apply to this 14 year old which can afford a six-figure aircraft with all of the training and maintenance? When I begged my father to take me to the nearest airport (45 minutes) away so I could watch the planes, I was told to just give up. I could never afford the training… 🤷‍♂️ Hats off to this kid, though. Kind of like CitationMax, take full advantage and live the dream if you’re given the opportunity!

I trust Adam’s mentors and instructors but I’ve got to say having kids this young, maybe a bit pushed into this level of flight scares me. We remember some very sad sad accidents with kids and young people who where out beyond their experience levels. Sure they love it but lots of adults giving excessive encouragement all the time can lead to over confidence. But they know the kid well and his psychology, so good luck to Adam and many happy landings.
@FlightChops
@FlightChops 2 месяца назад
Yeah, these concerns are generally valid, but in Adam's specific case, there's been absolutely no external pressure - if anything, it's been about holding him back when he's thought he was good to go - like for a fair bit of the week leading up to this contest (and during) the cross wind was really high, and in the interest of safety, Luke had to shut down Adam's hopes for a lot of the time he was wanting to fly.

@@davidduganne5939 That's an even better question! With all the issues in the U.S. at the present time with getting aircraft insurance over age 70, I was wondering the same. I don't know if the aerobatic sanctioning bodies have rules such as the FIA put in place few years ago requiring a driver to be at least 18 y.o. to obtain a super license to race in F1. I do realize however it's not head to head racing.

In terms of $$, ask parents of top-notch figure skaters or hockey players how much in time and $$ they "invested" in their kids. That RV-8 will more than hold its value. They miss the "character picture" of the pilot and the adults involved. Sad😢
