On November 13, 2017, the World Affairs Council-Washington, DC hosted an author series event featuring Dr. Aman Hingorani, author of "Unravelling the Kashmir Knot", to discuss the present Kashmir conflict and its resolution process.
Since the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947, India and Pakistan have both laid claim to the Kashmir territory, with China also occupying an area of Kashmir after a border war with India in 1962. A sticking point between the nuclear-armed India and Pakistan, the conflict dates back to Great Britain’s strategic geopolitical division of the subcontinent. It remains a point of contention between the countries and is an obstacle to better relations. How can this conflict best be addressed? What can be done to depoliticize the situation and bring stability to the region?
Dr. Hingorani is a lawyer and mediator in the Supreme Court of India and the High Court of Delhi.
