On September 12, 2017, the World Affairs Council-Washington, DC hosted Mr. Dan Plesch, Director of the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy at SOAS, University of London and author of 'Human Rights After Hitler: The Lost History of Prosecuting Axis War Crimes'.
Prior to World War II atrocities were seen as part of the nature of war. However the horrors committed during WWII induced Allied powers to prosecute the accused perpetrators. These events provided a foundation for twenty-first-century human rights and established international courts. Since then, calls for prosecuting war crimes around the world have been more frequent. What have we learned since the recognition of war crimes? Has the international justice system improved?
