This episode is what made me a Joe Martin fan for life no matter what he's building. If I had one in my garage? it's Exile. It's my style of what I want to ride most. it's me end to end. I love and appreciate any and all artists with passion and these guys set off a firestorm back in the day of what became the big bike boom 2K! It's great to watch Joe still today doing cars on Iron Res- He is a metal magician. .
I believe that all bike are all winners and they super 10x cool machine... Congratulations to aal the people who's made the 3 big bike so good... I really like it so much....
I liked Russels the best because of how clean it looks , plus you have to take riding into consideration , I could ride that all day in comfort , but the other two I would be in pain in half an hour .
But all of the bike are gorgeous .but team usa also went all into it.congatulation guys you all deserve two thumbs up great job evryone is a winner i think😊👍👍
If I could choose one to own and drive I would go for the UK one, but the Aussie’s level of craftsmanship is astounding. That said, from the first ep the US one was the most eye catching of all three. Had I been there to vote I think I would have voted either UK or AU, but all three are amazing and worthy of respect!
The black bike is the only one that is rideable every day, or for long miles. The Australian bike had the best craftsmanship. The American won because it was big long and bloated, and that is what Americans who voted want.
@@craigd1275as an American I would be voting for the UK bike. As incredible as the Australian one was you’d need sunglasses for your sunglasses if any sunlight hit it and the American bike is just hideous
What a burn. The bobber that the Brit built in Southern California is exactly, but exactly, what I want. Absolutely flawless execution of my dream bike: how did he know? Fooking brilliant, that.
The Aussies deserved to win, their bike was the better built of them all And I'm a Kiwi We never like Aussies to win ,all bikes were good in my eye but that Aussies bike ,If the people only new what went to making them before the vote things may have been different
Outstanding work on all three bikes. I was most impressed by the Aussie one; the pure skill of the metalwork is jaw-dropping. I hope to see more of that.
mind was blown by the level of cratmanship put into the aussie bike i wish i could build a bike from the ground up like that from literally nothing. nothing but respect but i kinda feel like bikes styled like that kinda look a bit too much like something woulda seen on like west coast choppers or something. lots of people including me are much more partial to that old school stylings kinda like what the english did.
Anyone who knows Bikes would Vote the Aussies for the win ... just look at the comments section. Just shows that very often the people judging the art haven't got the skill to know what it is they are judging in the first place. The U.S Bike looked like a childs toy blown up to scale ... beyond silly.
yeah not saying it judt coz im aussie but the usa one looked like a bike some little kid would hsve on his t-shirt ewith flames in the bsckground the aussie one looked good and sounded great the others looked cheesey snd sterotypical
1. Australian bike is the best, built from the ground up. 2. English bike comes second, i love the old school stuff 3. American bike looks like a bike from a reality bike show from discovery.
Russel's bike was the best one up there. Ridable, fat bob white walls, clean, and above all a freakin badass Knucklehead! My dream bike from the day I first viewed this sweet ride...An amazing bike of the ages. #1 with a bullet over the top... I wish it was mine 👍👍
That was a half ass bike that anyone with the parts can assemble. Russell built NOTHING on that bike... he used pre-existing, and ready made parts, that were slightly modified for his build! This was a bike BUILDERS competition, not a bike assembly competition! So no, sorry, Russell's bike comes in 3rd place.
+Guido Rollard I agree. Beyond National things (which I don't care about), the aussie team surprised me! In the middle of nowhere they managed to build that stunning masterpiece! Hats off gentlemen, you are winners! I am glad that arrogant guy didn't win. The aussie guy was correct "there's a huge difference in building bikes and assembling bikes".
+Alistair Nelson Bush Jr. wasn't elected by honest votes, just like Obummer wasn't. They were just the puppets assigned by the powers that be. Having said that, I agree the Aussie chap is an amazing craftsman. I mean he is a world class metal worker. I think Joe Martin is also quite gifted in metal working. The Arrogant Britwit get's zero praise from me though. There's a reason he's never won in the States, and if he wasn't so fucking arrogant, he might see why and correct it. Clearly that won't happen.
and often, a lot of the real craftsmen are hardly known outside their community, and just do what they love to do back home in their garage or shed, regardless of shows and stuff. Only if someone wants to bring his business into spotlight, thats a reason to do so
Guido Rollard I think you're 100% correct. I build some pretty cool shit in my garage/shop, and I do it with very little money, or resources. I always love to see true craftsmen build things, no matter what genre it's in. We are a dying breed. these days if they can't google it to see how everyone else does it, or if a computer can't tell them what to do, they are lost. I'm a machinist by trade, and a damn good one. Kids aren't learning to do things with their minds and hands any more. It's a real shame too.
WTF? Joe Martin makes the ugliest and most uncomfortable looking bikes in the history or bike building! It should have been judged this way Overall winner: Russ Mitchell Best Craftsmanship: Scotty Cox Best Pile of Shit: Joe Martin
All those bikes were built by fabulous builders. I have to say I appreciate the labor into the Australian bike, awesome skills just amazing but the bike I would ride, and wanna be seen on is Russell's. In fact it resembles my own bike in many many ways. I have to say every single thing about the exile bike is my absolute favorite. Great job fellas. 👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏. Nice
Hope Scotty got some of that, and not just the dealer who sponsored the build. Dude seriously needs the money to fix that leaky roof! All jokes aside, though, it was a fantastic build.
Aussie team should have won. It took way more skill to fabricate a bike that was way more unique than the other two. I agree with Aaack Aardvark here: Murcian and Brit bikes were a lot more bolt-on vs. truly custom bits throughout the bike. Not only that, but the bike that won was by far the least drivable. They barely got that monstrosity running...
So...the Americans made another same-same bike with no originality or creativity, painted in a boring color, all the while trying to convince themselves they're bad-ass...and only managing to be ass. The 'Brit' who is about as much that as the Americans, despite his assurances, made an IKEA bike, assembled out of flat-pack parts. And the Aussies made a bike with sweat, mallets and hard work, from absolute scratch...the way it should be done. And, of course, the Americans won. Because heaven forfend that they don't, in an American show.
Exactly right. Can't let someone other than an American win a comp run by an American show. Aussies always smash it outta the park. Build shit hot bikes & cars which have their own originality about them.
Shows how much styles can change. I watched this episode as a kid. I said back then, USA bike all the way. Now at 32, I would pick Exile bike in a heartbeat.
The Aussie bike I’ll surely never forget, I think it’s the nicest bike ever. Haven’t seen this in years but this was three talented teams all these bikes are gorgeous. I think this is the best episode.
The only bike builders here were the Aussies. fabricating almost everything them selves. Pommies were a joke, buy shit and put it all together, that requires pretty much no skills besides some basic mechanical knowledge
I’m sorry but when you allow a contest to be judged by a bunch of drunk spectators, your gonna get it wrong. Now the Martin bros. bike was an outstanding build NO QUESTION ABOUT IT!! But in as much as they built it custom, they still didn’t go through what the Australia team did. You see, EVERY SINGLE INCH OF THAT bike was custom cast aluminum polished to the specs of a fine Swiss watch. The contest should be judged by qualified builders that know what they are talking about. NOT by a bunch of easily impressed inebriated Yahoos that are judging them on pretty paint and striping. C’mon are you kidding me?? EVERY SINGLE PART OF THE AUSSIE build was built by hand. Did you see how thick the fender material was?? Or how beefy those handlebars were? Everything about that build SCREAMED high quality. The winner and the English bobber were fine bikes for sure and I would feel privileged to own either of them. But my opinion and 45 years experience with custom work says: the Aussie testament CREAMED the other guys and that they won on beauty, technical prowess and all around perfection. If they were compared to watches: •Martin bike was a SEIKO •English bobber an Omega •Aussie bike is a ROLEX!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🏻
Waveluth It’s all just for fun, dude. It’s not like the international title belt, or something. In the end, it’s all about what the bike sells for. This is all just Hollywood and fun.
There were bits of all 3 that I liked. The American one had that long, low curvy look, but in the end it looked like a tribal tattoo with wheels. The English one had the perfect '50s vibe, and I really liked the extremely clean look and the fact it had 2 fat tires on it, but the only access to the front brake being on that shift lever under your butt was a bit of a bummer, as was the shifter position, and it was an off-the-shelf assembly that really didn't have that chopper look. In the end, the Aussie bike really nailed it. Absolutely blown away by the craftsmanship that went into it and it's hard to argue with the quality of the end result. The fit and finish were next level. They'd have had my vote had I been there.
depends on what style of chopper youre going for. you say the english didnt quite have a chopper feel, but it definitely had that 50s early 60s bobber kinda early chopper style. the other two were that newer style of chopper. in my mind the aussies did the best work all around for sure, that level of craftmanship is just amazing and i respect it, but i just cant get down with that newer style of chopper and will always prefer that older style like the british did. i will agree that the choice to do the front brake like that is a bit dumb though.
American biker's have been building one off custom motorcycle;s longer than anyone its what we do its our heritage ! Not surprised at all that Martin Brother's took the prize ! The Aussie bike beautifully designed but to much aluminum not enough contrast ! British bike very clean but a bit to simple ! Joe martin hand's down winner !
Crazy to thinks this was 11years ago.. That Bobber's probably the coolest, but what Scotty and the boys put together was awesome! Good stuff. That American dude though, really brought nothing to the table for me.
I must repeat another's post," Australian team were the best by far. Superb craftmanship ". Martins had the nicest paint, Russel's bike are very cool and easy to ride but the Aussie bike in a build off was far and above the others.... I live in Washington State, USA.
We do not make single seat bikes unless someone actually asks for it....We call single seats Gay bikes....you ride it to the bar and pick up a beautiful woman then she follows you home in her Toyota....does not make sense unless your just into yourself....old time choppers with room for a girl is the only way to go....and they get 200 to 300 miles on a double tank of gas..
I remember watching this when it first aired, and thinking the Exile looked timeless, while the other two, as impressive as the work was, instantly looked like 2004. It was obvious then the long swoopy tribal flame stuff would not be around in a few years. Russell Mitchell in 2021 is still building satin black tanks while the other two are now doing completely different things, which I think says it all.
Timeless doesn't matter because people will always love the stuff from their era. Take the vehicle industry, how sought after all the old mustangs, corvettes, chargers, camaros, old trucks, it's endless all the older vehicles that are going for big money now. So, in time, these older bikes will be just as sought after as collectible time pieces.
Riding the bike vs. looking at the bike…that’s why I liked his bike back then & now. Tbh…I loved the whole chopper craze and its extremes but always knew I wouldn’t want to own one of those zero maneuverability kickstand showpieces.
Aussie bike was badass but imagine having to polish it all the time just to keep it looking good? British bike was one you can buy off of craigslist that somebody slapped together in their garage.
Team Australia had the best bike by far. They should have won no doubt. The level of craftsmanship on the bike was amazing, all the detail that went into the build is something to really admire. BAD ASS BIKE TEAM 🇦🇺.
keith hunter The audience doesn’t get a written description of the bike or anything. They just look at it for a few moments and go by initial aesthetic impression.
THE BRITISH BIKE WAS CRAP. The aussie bike was the best. Im british and the guy building those bikes knows jack shit about motorbikes. If HE DID hE WOULD HAVE TAKEN AN OLD SCHOOL BSA OR TRIUMPH AND BASED HIS BUILD ON THAT. The handlebars on his bike looked ridiculous it looked like a kids chopper bicycle from the 1970s it was a complete joke also in no way was he a representation of British custom bike builders. I know Bike builders in the Uk who would eat him alive at ay bike show anywhere.
The british bobber was the BEST. The other too, nice bikes, but waaaay too flashy, they looked like toys. Unfortunately, seems like the American public enjoys super colored, bling bling, awkward looking motorcycles. The truth is, at the end of the day, no one would buy that kind of stuff. They would all go for a NORMAL bike.
Florin Nitulescu Not really. You're talking Daytona here. The *East Coast* American public likes lots of flash bling. The West Coast American public likes lots of flash bling. The rest of us, the REAL Americans, generally prefer old school over anything. The results in Sturgis, for example, likely would've come out different.
John Ratko Oh, ok. I understand. I wasn't trying to sound harsh, but I'm more into motorcycles that look like motorcycles, not like spaceships. But then again, it is my opinion, it shouldn't be everybody else's opinion.
Florin Nitulescu I agree with you, Florin. A motorcycle should look like a motorcycle. If someone gave me a $50,000 spaceship motorcycle, I'd just tear it down and use the motor, transmission and anything else I could salvage to put into a normal frame to make it a motorcycle.
Florin Nitulescu I have to agree with both of you guys they really aren't ridable bikes. However if the craftmans ship were the deciding factor the AUSIE bike wins hands down Cant hide mistakes when its all polished, also all built in house, not saying opening a catalogue and ordering parts isnt a good way for your average joe to build A bike but this was a build off,not call your supplier and bitch. So on that alone the Ausie's won.
When this aired, my favorite was the exile bike. Revisiting it, i still feel the same. The aussies obviously displayed the best technical fabrication skill. But i think exile displayed the best compositional skill, which ultimately matters most to me. The Aussie bike looks like the silver surfer ordered a custom chopper. The American bike looks like a dragon with serious back problems wearing a bunch of gaudy jewelry. It looks like some inaccurate interpretation of a motorcycle, like if you asked an ai to produce an image of a motorcycle. The exile bike just looks like an exceptionally clean, well done bobber, which is always attractive in my book
What a fucking pisser, when you order any parts by phone or mail with precise length and numbers..,and some jerk-off with head-phones on, listening to some jerk-off music, picks up the wrong parts because he's a jerk-off,and send them to you and charge you....It should never happen.....!!!!!....Anyway these guys are all fabulous artists.....
*The Americans most definitely put the most creativity and function all while making the most comfortable to ride bike, except for the fact that it's a hard-tail!!! The Brits (Russell) built (assembled) the same old boring bobber that they ALWAYS do!!! The Aussies actually "built"something for once, and it actually ran!! The Aussies also finally picked someone that's not afraid to put a little hard work into his bike, I actually kinda liked this one!!*
Russell Mitchell's Bike is the real winner for me, I like the looks, the ruggedness the toughness, clearly it's a bad ass more functional and smooth bike compare to the two bikes.
You prove what you're made of on a biker build show. Martin Bros showed that after being happy with their quality tolerances. That's why Indian Larry is a legend.
While all three bikes are beautiful the truth is . . . the American bike simply didn't stand up to the test of time. I think we've all learned how goofy the "chopper craze" was (or I hope so anyhow).
But he builds great bikes. I like his acid builds. And everything is so clean looking. No cables or wires. If I had the money. A lot of parts for my bike would be from Excile bikes. But hey, that's my idea on how a bike should look. Not everyone shares the same view.
Im also an old school Harley minimalist like Russell. Ironically, all the hideous noise and colors he doesn't want on his bikes, he smears all over his body. GO FIGURE ??????
"The names and Nationalities of the builders have been hidden to ensure fairness from voters" ? I'm sure they didn't put together the giant Martin Bros logos cut into the billet rims of each tire? Come on! I'm sure if it was judged in England or Australia then the results would be different? The Australian bike was insane but I think he shot himself in the foot with those terrible handlebars!
As an Australian, id own the British bike first even if the builder is a bit of a clown. This bike format however ive seen before so not original. the Aussie bike i like second because of the work in it and its more proportionate than the US one, the American bike to me seems way overkill. I can appreciate the work in it but it just doesnt have any flow, its a bit grating.
I'm USA, but sorry, that hand made Australian bike should have won. All great bikes, but people have no idea what it takes to design/cut/shape/shine/fit parts like they did. Not to mention get parts to them. People just gloss over the out of the ordinary types of bikes these days, thanks to bike build shows. No one likes to ride a motorcycle with their hands and feet way forward, trying to steer unless they only have them to show. Aussies, you rock and so do you English with that engine!
Worse thing you can do is drive a bike on the beach. Salt and sand gets into everything, especially eats a chain and sprocket in no time. Very foolish to do that to something so valuable and expensive to build.
The English's bike is nowhere near as detailed as the other American in the Australian bike. Their bike looks okay but the American and Australian bikes are amazing
The American bike was awesome, but even though I'm American I have to give the winning nod to the Aussie team. That polished aluminum bike was awesome and the winner in my opinion. Hat off to you Scotty you built a dream on wheels hands down the best and baddest bike in the world.
They did zero hand works. Most of parts not customize at all. Simply use phone call and blame others. Also no meaning paint job or body vvorks. Their chooperbike derivatived to be an after market modify on scene
Back in the day when I was responsible for making custom motorcycle tyres for Avon, then Vee Rubber, Scotty Cox entered the Acid Monster, a truly gorgeous motorcycle for the world championship held in Las Vegas. As I am also a former racer, tyre tester, and aerospace engineer, I could not fail but be impressed by the overall package of the man and machine. Too often the term builder is tagged onto assemblers, and so it has become almost a stupid statement in itself. This is the man for the art of the motorcycle, from start to finish. No surprise that an American won in an American contest, in America. But I for one, beg to differ
For bike built, Scotty the Aussie hands down. Master piece. For rideable and one i would buy, the UK bike without a doubt. Amazing bike. Ete candy with style and paint job, the US bike. Would have been 3rd in my vote. Hard pressed between UK and Australia. Just depends on my personal criteria
Dont know why I watched this, but as an American all 3 were cool; I really think the Aussie bike was the best, followed closely by the Brit bike. Brit bike was clean and solid. The American bike was flashy but looked like it was be uncomfortable on long rides. The Aus bike was pure craftsmanship.
