2019 World Champion in the lightweight men's single, Martino Goretti, share his experience with Randallfoils. Only 10 weeks before the worlds, he tried out Randallfoils and decided to use them all the way - becoming world champion, posting the fastest time on every single race day.
His insights are priceless for everybody in preparation for the season of 2020. In this interview he answers questions openly and shares his experience with everybody.

I was lucky enough to speak to Martino after his gold medal and he did tell me that oar length was shortened, inboard lengthened and feet back a touch to help counteract the load at the catch. Personally I love the extra load and connection you get at the catch, it enables a really great hang off the front and subsequent power to the end of the stroke. I have shortened my oars but kept the 87 inboard and 159 span. It feels great and ultra stable. Another thing Martino mentioned was that the foils tell you when you get the catch wrong....it should be soft and quiet, if it gets loud you hear it and can then adjust.....

True, shorter oars work perfect when using foils. My oars are shortened to 2,81...inboard 89 and 159 span.

Coach, in the 60s had me drill out the wood handles for the Lightweight 8 crew. We poured about 350 grams of lead in each handle to counterbalance the oar. It seemed to help on the recovery.

Hey Aram, I asked my coach if he would consider getting these for our team. His issue with them is that there are some inexperienced rowers who catch with their arms and shoulders, pulling the handles upwards and burying too deep. Is it possible that the foils will solve the depth problem but not the underlying cause? Is it possible that these rowers might end up losing power because their poor technique becomes less noticeable?

Its a no brainer , try them and you will understand, its as simple as that , i gave a friend of mine a short paddle with my blades and said it was like cheating and next day he bought a set what more can i say

How are these not banned by FISA? Would they not fall under the same category as the sliding rigging assembly where it’s more athlete versus technology instead of athlete versus athlete?

FISA has determined that the foil design complies with all current oar design laws - a copy of authorization can be found here drive.google.com/open?id=1KUcCgg9P3ONeDCasLI-gqjnxch285L06 The design was presented at the last International Coaches Conference and was made available to all athletes and national teams to use. All teams, coaches and athletes have had every opportunity to adopt the design.
