Excellent review. And your surprising observation about Capablanca’s and Karpov’s games as hard models for improving players is most helpful!

When you showed the second example, I immediately remembered the game frome a lecture (I thnik) on Ginger GM's site by Ivan Sokolov on how to play against the Tartakower QGD. I don't know if I'd found the solution if I hadn't remembered that. ;) Then again, Karpov, along with Capablanca is my favourite player, so I had to laugh somewhat when you mentioned them as difficult to understand or learn from.

Great review! Is the material approachable for any level of player, or would it be recommended to read through other pieces of strategic chess literature before attacking it?

I agree, the book is marketed for clubs players but it would be cool to get an approximate rating range and maybe a comparison to other books out there (if any).

What do you think of the book "Practical Chess Exercises: 600 Lessons from Tactics to Strategy"? I really love the concept of the book, but I can't help but be suspicious because the author is an untitled unknown. It has great reviews and a foreword from GM, but that doesn't guarantee that the explanations are good.

The pronounciation wasn't horribly butchered. The last 'e' in the name, in this instance is a short è, instead of "see" . :)
@robinesperoza
@robinesperoza 10 месяцев назад
Actually I thought about this, my previous comment isn't right. There are at least different ways the letter "e" is pronounced in a word in Dutch. A short è sound, like "pet" (=cap) The long é sound like "zee" (=sea) A kinda "uh" sound, like "ze" (=she) In this case the "e" at the end should be pronounced something like "uh" The long sound is usually written like "ee" but to keep it simple this is not true when the letter is at the end of a syllable, then it should be long. The best word that combines this mess is "deze" (=these") This is pronounced something like dea-suh. Languages don't make any sense. Sorry, this comment is just my interest in languages, not because I think every perosn should speak all the languages in the world.
