I love my Martin tenor and alto the tenor is from1954 the alto was made in 1949 like me . I got the tenor from a pawn shop in Brooklyn for 120.00 she was broke, had a big dent on the D key but there was just something about her that drew me to her. I had a friend who played alto who told me to take here up to a guy on 48th street, when he saw her he said " this is a great horn it's a Martin a poor man's Selmer ",I can fix it give me a week. I love the lush sound and the American craftsmenship of these horns.
This sounds great, American brash at its best, I've got one of these 36 numbers away from this horn, so made the same week I'd guess, mine's silver plate and sounds darker but the sound is big and beautiful. I'm used to my old Selmer so hardly play my Martin, but this vintage of Martin's sound as good as anything made:)
