She’ll bring a new appreciation to classical music for those who aren’t really into it. Her clarity and sound from that instrument is astounding. I see that she fiddles with it occasionally, does a trumpet need that, or is she adjusting it for her next run? I’m not a musician just curious.

Apart from draining the spit valve at about 4 mins it looks just like mannerisms, checking the mouthpiece fit, tuning slide tightness, etc.

COM LICENÇA! 1º Não se trata de 'cuspe', mas de ar condensado, resultado do choque entre o ar frio dentro do instrumento e o ar quente projetado pelo corpo humano. 2º Ao 'mexer' no instrumento, ela está corrigindo sua afirmação com a orquestra, já que os instrumentos de metal são muito sucetiveis as mudanças de temperatura: calor e frio, o ar-condicionado, o tempo de execução e muito mais.

Its called knowing your instrument. A brass instrument can tend to go out of tune during playing due to temperature variations, obstructions in the air column or other factors. if you know the instrument, you anticipate these factors and make checks and adjustments as required by the score.

Absolutely fabulous player. Playing Eb trumpet in this performance. Not an easy instrument. Bb trumpet is what most use. Alison is equally comfortable on Bb and C trumpet and also piccolo trumpet. Her sound is second to none. Top of the world I reckon

This concerto is far easier on the Eb than it is on the Bb. Pretty much every professional musician plays this on the Eb. Its original key was actually E natural.
