Wow, that is super cool! I rode an '85 CR500 almost everyday for years. It had an FMF pipe and it had all the ports matched, smoothed and cleaned up. It would wheelie on throttle at any speed and in any gear. Best days of my life!
Wish I still had my 87 CR500. It was pristine when I sold it in 05. The guy couldn't get it in his truck fast enough. I knew I blew it as soon as I saw it drive away....
Two stroke are so much better I love my ohlins and brembo equipped 300 cc whippet power to weight is something else I'd buy this bike I've been looking at maico but those brothers cost a man his mobility and all to take control of the company so they ain't getting my money this looks great
@@convex7456 your absolutely right the maico is incredible to ride I just wouldn't buy from them because of the backstabbing brother who took over the company after causing a rider to be paralysed he refused to have the parts heat treated and other cost saving measures it was sabotage really from the brother and a rider got hurt very badly due to the rear(non treated) hub I believe it was
That plus the music was mixed too loud. One couldn't hear/understand much of the rider's commentary because it was edited to have the music louder than the bike and the commentary.
Smooth linear power, no vibration, electric start, rekluse clutch, sounds like they have removed all the things that made these beasts such a thrill to ride, I have owned a few and still have a 85cr500, its a monster and seems to fight you as u ride it, it's kinda like a circus lion, most of the time it performs like it should, but at any moment without warning it tries to kill you, wouldn't have my 500 smoker any other way,
One thing I didn't like to see was the powervalve. It's not quite modern-tech and I thought it should doubly be a more classic feel than a 4-stroke. Can do away with the rekluse. I do not mind elec. start and no vibration - those weren't thrilling parts of the bike lol, those were genuine fears.
@@gregclayton8831 I wonder of drilling and lockwiring them would help with vibration.. or would the lockwires vibrate like micro guitars strings until they fatigue snap?
Too much talking not enough riding. Finally see the bike been ridden only to be dissapointed by seeing it ridden slowly. Big open tracks is where the 500s belong
It’s a testament to the way it delivers its power that it can be ridden well in such terrain. Gotta admit I was wanting to see it scream out of turn though.
To be of ANY advantage whatsoever there needed to like long ass uphill sections where you could make up on the lost time in the tight stuff ...500 2 bangers were definitely harder to work with for mere mortals ...just too much unusable power in most sections...a hinderance
RIPPER vlogs Yorkshire I agree not the place I would test a two stroke more like out in the foot hills big rollers wide open ! Keep your feet on the pegs and your right hand cranked
@@nicky87lhm I have lined my cr500 up with the so called holeshot artist on a tricked out rm 250 and embarrassed the shit out of him. I dragged a yz450 on the blacktop and took him too. It was pretty close though. We did some roll ons too. Took him everytime
@ john s .... Sure, no probs. All this information regarding the bolt on 500 kit, engineering, dirt bikes etc and you comment on a guys Raybans. To quote BlackHorseoftheHell comment above..... "When someone points to the stars, the idiots look to the finger..."
Paul Oshea it’s all about how the power is delivered street bikes don’t have a big hit like proper motocrossers. Making them feel safer even though it will do well over the top speed of most Dirtbike’s in second or third gear
Don't say that, you don't know the future. If one of these bikes is truly your passion, you can find a way. I just say something because I want you to be happy and I know you are capable.
Hey I never thought I could buy one and I work as a guard at pay rate of $12.00 in Cali I saved money for 1 year and bought a 2008 505 ktm a 2004 crf250r but with a cr500 motor so I guess yeah can afford it like I can with a crappy paying job
I'd love to see this done to a full blown MX bike and ridden against the best 4 strokes by a competent rider. Bikes like this could be the new premier class.
Its slow as shit, any modern 450 will blow this things door off. My boy built one and has over 30K in it.... and its the slowest bike of all the bikes we ride with. Terrible motor, complete waste of money.
@@shawnszep4941 I disagree...I had a CR500 and I now own a KTM 500EXC. That Honda would eat my KTM alive with that motor. Why do you think they use 450's in the old 250 class? Do you even know the difference between a 4 stroke and a 2 stroke? The 2 has a power stroke every other rotation of the flywheel. Guess how many times the 4 stroke goes around for each power stroke? That's why it takes twice the displacement on a 4 to equal the HP of a 2. If your boy spent $30k building a slow 2 stroke, then perhaps he should stick to bingo.
@@dh-flies I was thinking maybe he was referring to this KTM in the video. Surely he is not calling CR&KX 500s slow??? If so wow!! The AMA won’t allow 2 strokes to come back by limiting them to 250cc to run with 450cc. The 2 stroke wouldn’t even need 500cc, I would think it could easily be done with 350cc or less. If the AMA would allow 300-350cc 2 strokes they would be out there and would dominate. Which would in turn bring back the popularity. 2 strokes are making a comeback. 10 years ago I could pick up nice YZ250s for 1000/1500 bucks. Now you need 4K for a nice YZ250
@@shawnszep4941 are you referring to this KTM in the video?? Your friend owns one? And it’s slow?? if so wow that’s crazy a 500 2 stroke being slow. If so they must have really went to far trying to tame it.
there was an article in dirt wheels or 3 and 4 wheel action back in the late 80s where Honda was testing an ATC 500R counter balanced engine when all the lawsuit's started, ban on 3 wheelers and the project was scrapped. I remember reading the test riders saying it was unreal.
@@ROTAXD don't speak ill of what you haven't tried. I'm a HUGE proponent of technical riding in rocky new england trails, yet enjoy the dunes just fine. No need to be on a high horse man, jeez.
I think this kit costs too much. Edit: i have converted the Price in euros and it's ok, about 4900€,But the real problem are the replacement parts if something brokes down.
@@kdzenins understandable, at first glance I thought the same.. then you contemplate and realize what engineering and development was involved. It's a fully bespoke design from scratch, and relatively low production too!
As a rider and owner or two Cr500 I still am waiting for the now old technology of "direct injection" to be applied to a 500. With that I would say keep your exhaust power valve and give me a turbo! The counter balancer and the electric start are nice, but the six speed is awesome. Plated, we would finally have a no so half assed dual sport available.
I rode a 1995 CR500 for ten years. Woods, desert, dunes I did it all. I ride a '19 300xcw TPI now and it's a way better bike overall. The only time I miss the CR is in point and shoot, full throttle hill climbing. Everything else is XCW territory hands down. This kit is really cool but I don't think my 300 actually needs more power.
Maico made a 660cc and 700cc 2T as well back in the day . Both of which ate up the Japanese 500cc bikes because let's face it … there's no replacement for displacement . A 700cc Maico is no beast to bat your eyelash at either … It's quite the animal to attempt to tame on the trail or track . = )
Cr500 fanboys annoy the hell out of me. Even in the comments here "my cr500 has NO vibrations!!", "my cr500 makes 95hp, let's see this engine do THAT!" Newsflash, even a 4t 450 can beat the old technology 2t 500 these days. I hope this BRC 500 really shuts them up
There are lots of different ones however with balancer shaft, electric start, powervalve & KTM transmission its something out of this world. We need to try the sucide maico 700!
RIPPER vlogs Yorkshire When did Pastrana build a New 500cc 2stroke bike? youtube link? info? Pictures? video? Have seen his RMZ With a cr 500 engine, but never heard or seen anything about him having built a New bike With the Suzuki 500 engine.
OMG I so want one of these. I'm currently restoring an '86 CR500 right now. I have 7 other bikes in the stable, one of which is a 2014 Husaberg TE300 which would be perfect for this built. I bought a 2017 FX350 this year which has been my goto since, so the Berg just sits there. Cannot think of a better use for it right now. I'll be following this closely. Thanks for posting this video.
I feel for these guys. With the electric bikes becoming more popular. Imagine a silent bike in the woods? You would actually see more animals, maybe bear.
Lol I have 2 CR500s and I had to loctite my spark plug in cause it rattled out. I remember on the start line blipping the throttle and the whole front brake started dancing up and down 😂. Rode it today and ended up in hospital with a concussion and 4 broken ribs 😂😖
Rebecca Harkins doesn’t matter how many times you go over it with the spanner 🔧 set everything still rattles loose because they don’t have balance shafts. The only way to keep the old 500s together is to loctite everything!
What I would love to have is a KTM 2015 Two Stroke SX with a KTM 380 SX engine in a KTM 250 chassis! Which a KTM 380 can be held wide open and easier to handle than any 500 size bike!
All these aftermarket companies copied and modified original Japanese designs so not as difficult as people think. With modern technology so much easier to copy.
So where I’m at in order to do the build which is a sweet setup I would need to purchase about a $3000 usd bike give or take. After that I would need to purchase the motor which runs just short of 6k usd. I would do the swap myself but for people not as mechanically inclined they would be paying for the swap which would run atleast another 1000.00 usd. I still would not have a new bike. I would have a very used bike with a new motor. If I wanted to go through the used bike to make it as new as possible I would spend atleast another 1000.00 in parts to cosmetically make the bike as new as possible and mechanically make the bike as new as possible. Again I would be doing the wrench time. Having to pay a shop to do the wrench time to bring the bike up to a new look and feel would run maybe another 5-600 usd. Now I would be into the bike quiet a lot for a chassis that is over a decade old with a very nice motor. Yes I say very nice because I love the idea of the motor setup and what they have done with this product. So yes for guys out there that are tired of their old 250-300 this would be awesome to swap over. For guys looking to swap back over to a 2 stoke this would be very hard. Unless you found some guy that that a washed up bike that he was looking to dump. Which I never see where I live lol. Finally I would like to know if this motor swap is possible for an sx model being I am not a fan of bikes without linkage. Side note again I love the idea of what these guys are doing! Keep it up!
i go way back boys, i had 73 yamaha dt 360 enduro wiesco'd up !! vibrated so bad it blurred your vision but a ditch digger !! lol p.s. compression release was not functioning it would kick back and break your leg !!! fun times
You could buy the best big bore two stroke ever made for the price of these Canucks kit, the fabulous 81 Maico MC 490 and with the right ability kill anyone at your local track.
A 500 is total overkill for trails I rode a 650 Honda on trails never got out of 3 gear a 200 or 250 is perfect for all trails open desert or tracks for a 500
I disagree. I rode an it465 for years after 125s and 250s. You’ll never get stuck by being up in fourth and fifth gear when a surprise comes at you on tough dangerous trail as can easily happen to you on the smaller bore bike. It’s much easier to bail out or get through a tough situation on a big bore bike then losing the time it requires to quickly shift down to get to the gear where you need to be. IMO.
Hello. Mi friend. I AM enjoy yuor youtube chanell. I love the dirt bines 2t and 4t. I Like work in Canadá WHIT this Machínes in any workshop. I am mechanic in Colombia. And I am Ready for travel now. Is my dream. Nice to meet you.
I'm a quick rider, but certainly not the fastest out there by far. I spent 30 years on big bore 2 strokes, from Husky 390 and 430, IT495, KTM 500 and a few others. Sadly never a CR500. They are generally slower than a good 250 or 300 everywhere (2 stroke, duh), but so much easier to ride at 80%, which is just right for me. Stick them in 3rd from idle to about 50 mph, like riding an automatic, and the sound is just awesome. If you want to go serious fast, get a 250 (2 stroke), if you want to go fast with a huge smile on your face, get a 500!
Sold my like new KX 500 years ago for 2500 bucks. Also sold my 64 Corvette Stingray years ago for 2200 bucks. Would someone please shoot me before I do anymore stupid things.🤣
Man, I thought that this channel was one of those windows dictation video schemes... I wish I'd clicked it sooner. Sub'd 👍🏼 Well, this makes me not want anything fro Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and especially Kawasaki ever again! Supporting a ground-up North American company, that's priceless. *Made in America* should be cast into the case! 😁👍🏼 Canada or not, we support our neighbors because when they're doing good... We all do good! Funny how that piston looks like it came from a small block Chevy! Well done BRC, RESPECT for doing something we could only ever dream about and doing it to perfection!
LMAO!...first 25 seconds...got a new $8000 4t that revs to the moon? this is how it turned to a $1500 cl sale in a year CRUNCH!.....2t for life BRAPPPP!
OUTDOORS -- 2 MILE TRACK WITH JUMPS -- HOW FAR CAN IT SAIL -- SHOW SOME DUNES -- GO FASTER MAN -- 5th GEAR WHEELIES -- COME ONE MAN !!! -- TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT
Yo I'm 39,5 those are for age of 15/16/17/18 I was good with those but now I stopped playing at motocross or at the forests. So I go with something heavier.American Noobs. Those are for kids & tricks;)lol
I would give my right arm to have one of them in my 96 RM 250,I could finally give my mate a run for his money on his honda mugan.😂why did people stop buying 2 strokes...☹️🙏🏼well done guys.🇬🇧👍🏻
So basically they are doing the same thing or should I say copying what AJ Waggoner at Built Honda an Adam Muellar are already doing... But just throwing in electric start.... Call me not impressed!! Stick to building gocarts boys!! AJ an Adam have been racing bikes an building Pro bikes for slews of Pro riders for years! An know what there doing!!
Finally !a bike show from Canada.I'm from south-east N.B.(Albert county) We have plenty of groomed trails) Their is a track about an hour away . My dad used race ICE , and do Ice racing . I deal with Toys for Big Boys on Salisbury rd. ,great sales people (my dad still sells bikes)not everyone works on commission . Anyway , The enduro scene could be brought back here easily , it's just that nobody wants to set them up . Anyway , great show .Can you guys do a show on thoseTimber Sled tracks for bikes .Like which bikes can take one of those kits , or make it take the track .ie. I have a XR 650 L ,I'm pretty sure it's too heavy for the track system , that market isn't big here because because we don't have powder ,the front wheel needs to stay on the bike (not the ski) with a studded front knobbie.
Regarding kick starting a big 2 stroke...it's not rocket science and you don't have to be Hercules. I rode my Dad's Yamaha Enduro 400 back in the early 70's when I was about 16 years old and weighed no more than 135 lbs and I started it just fine...you just have to not pussy foot around, when you kick it do it like you mean it...oh and if you need some help just pull the compression release....like I said it's not rocket science. Also I then owned an H2 750 and that scooter was the same way, you better be serious when you kicked it, but again I probably weighed 140 lbs at age 17 when I bought the H2 and I had no problems starting it.
My opinion is KTM is the greatest manufacturing motocross bike ever made! I love everything about KTM what I wonder is why no one thinks of using Suzuki’s quadzilla 500 two stroke which gives us another option of 500 size two stroke motors! In 07’ I raced Ryan Dungey on my KTM 250 SX because he was trying to give lessons at my local track in Louisiana and the manager called me because they wanted to know or watch us compete which he blew his Factory RMZ 450 motor because of a 3-4 foot deep mud hole at around 95 to 100 mph through this mud hole at the end of a 5th gear pinned straight away with the mud hole at the end! I new that because of two strokes that I could stay on top! Ryan was very fast unfortunately for him a 4 stroke has to many moving parts to try and redline plus try and power through at maximum speed. KTM is forever my favorite bikes of all time.
way to much machine for the tighter trails 1st or 2nd gear if lucky don't need it and mostly the bike is never used to its even half potential okay 3rd gear bogging right out 250 3509 450 4 strokes are plenty xr 250 was my fave there's not a man alive who can handle that 500 cc fully not even Arny
